Default C6 / C7 Brake Cooling Deflectors on C5

Anyone tried mounting either the C6 or C7 brake cooling deflectors on a C5?

Thanks

Rob

Good question, I was thinking of doing the same with the C6ZR1 deflectors.

I've read several threads about them and suggestions that it should be easy to make metal deflectors for the C5 but thinking the stock C6 may be good as a starting point. I know the mounting bosses don't exist on the C5.

Various 911 (GT2, GT3,..) also use similar setup.

It would be nice to have the C6s mounting boss, but I suspect it would suffice to use the sway bar mounting bolt and a hose clamp on the inboard end of the A-arm.
Maybe have a tab coming off the inboard side of the A-arm that connects to the rear of the A-arm to help keep the deflector vertical.

Here's the C6 ZR1 deflectors on my early C6 (so no bosses). I used a second nut on the sway bar end link bole and a couple of zip ties to hold them on. They don't move around and they work well.

Are you using these in place of the ducting that goes through the wheel well? I like the idea of adding some wheel clearance when turning.

Right: 20772013
Left: 20772014

A few of the right side parts are out there, for instance the p/n shows up on the RockAuto website. The left shows as discontinued. Might check eBay

You can use them without, or in conjunction with, the ducting through the wheel well. With really inefficient rotors (stock), it is beneficial to have both. You can essentially chop off the section of rotor backing plate for the ducting that hangs below the tie rod pickup point and get the benefit of both forms of cooling. Or you can just remove the backing plate/ducting and run the "deflector". I've run both ways. I removed the hoses and backing plates when I upgraded to APs to not block airflow through the rotor.

Are the left / right mirrored parts? I could scan / invert the one thats still available and print from TPU.

Yes they are mirrored parts. Just a note that the OE parts are a stiff rubber, since they are so low, you don't want them to easily break if they hit something.

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is flexible. It won't crack / break. I'll probably have to print with ribs to make it a little stiffer.

I do have access to rubber mill and 300 ton vulcanizing press, but making a mold is expensive.

I still have the plastic ducts since they're not hurting anything but removed the hoses so no more rubbing.

I'm pretty sure that if someone wanted to make a "ghetto" version of these, you could cut the shape out of a sheet of plastic/rubber and get 90% of the functionality for very little cost.

That's what I was thinking. Ordered a new one. I will "replicate" it for the other side.

Where'd you order it from?

Haven't received it yet, but it has been shipped. Crossing fingers. Lately, when I need some GM parts, I buy them, but a few days later my money gets refunded and the order canceled.

Yeah I did that last year on my C6Z. I can't remember if i threw those pieces away or not, but part of the one broke off from hitting something. That's why i was thinking about buying the real ones, but looks like i'll be making some again.
