Where can I drive 200MPH?
The title pretty much says it all, just kind of a crazy bucket list thing
that I would like to check off.
I would like to find a place that I can SAFELY hit 200 MPH, most likely
in a straight line. I have hit 160+, and I still have "the need for speed".
Preferably east of the Mississippi, even better within a few hundred
miles of Bowling Green, KY.
Suggestions? TIA

Possibly east coast timing association (ECTA) Blytheville Arkansas. One mile track has had to move venues a couple of times, hence the coast part is long gone. There is another one in Maine, the Loring Timing Association. There’s others in the west and maybe Texas but I was looking for closest to NY state

Not within a few hundred miles of BG but Texas Mile .1.5 mile section of open highway, with typically lots of entrants and spectators during one of their events.
That said, there is no such thing as "safely" hitting 200 mph. Even with new tires and a well-prepared car there are too many variables (surface, wind conditions, driver reactions, etc.) that aren't necessarily controllable. And most Corvettes I've driven at speeds close to that tend to get light on the front wheels which makes the car especially twitchy with cross-wind gusts.
But hey, it's your neck. Just hope you have a really good cage in the car .

How much power does your car have?
I mean, with around 1500 hp, you could probably do it at most 1/4-mile strips.
You could probably get to 200 in a mile with 700 or so.
No idea what it would take for a half mile, maybe 1000?

Look up Johnny Bohmer proving grounds and run the 3 mile long Kennedy Space Center shuttle landing strip. You can do a dead stop - 2.7 mile trap. I did it in my bone stock C7 Grand Sport and hit 180 mph. You will need roughly 600-650 HP give or take depending the car and aero. It isn't cheap but it is an absolute blast.
The day I ran, there were about 20 of us, mostly supercars like McLaren, Acura nsx, Bugatti, Ford GT, and everyone hit 200 mph except me. The Bugatti hit 261. I have met two guys that are forum members who have also done this, both had C6 Z06s with some engine mods and they both cracked the 200 mark. I know their real names but forget their user names here. I also saw a video of a ZL1 Camaro that only hit 178 mph in the 2.7 mile run. The car obviously has less aero and weighs 500 more pounds than a Vette and has, but it has 650 hp. This ZL1 ran 161 mph in the standing mile, I did 157 in my C7 GS.

Melting Slicks
Here but it's in Nevada. https://sscc.us/
Course is 90 miles. Guy in town went 247 mph and averaged 217 mph over the 90 miles. Can't believe that was 10 years ago now.

AZDave has run this course multiple times. Some real skill involved.

Yeehaww! I am in, Tom. Might have to travel down together in the near future and check it out. I haven't even used the launch mode in my ZR1 because I figure it takes a little room with a good marker for when to apply the brakes at the end.
