Default 3.42 or 3.73 ring pinion

Hi all,

C6 Z06

Need to make a decision over the next few hours on which ring and pinion ratio i will need to select. Car is at ECS as there was suspect noise, turns out I need a rebuild of the rear end. I use this car for road racing and autocross. Choices in title. Thanks

there isn't an automatic answer to this. You need to look at your use of 2nd and 5th gears, and determine if the 20% decrease in speed will help or hurt you. RPM range, tire diameter etc are factors that could be unique to your situation.

centri? autocross? go with the taller gear. otherwise first gear will be useless.

I agree, OP play this calculator entering all your info and compare the speed difference of the two choices to determine what’s best.

I did the 3.73 swap for road course, it was a bit quicker and yes 1st was useless.
When I went from LS1 to a built LS7 there was way to much shifting going on.
swapped back to 3.42.
I dont think I did any autox with the 3.73 but imagine it would make 2nd way more useful...

I have a 3.73 in my C5 383ci stroker and do a lot of autox.... I end up using second everywhere but off the line. Drove a stock C5 and it wasnt very happy in second gear on the same track. I like the 3.73 for autox. Full track obviously depends on each track.
