Default Dry sumping a C5

If you've put a dry sump tank in your C5... where did you put the oil tank, which tank did you use, and what did you need to relocate in order to make space for it?

And what would you do differently if you were to start over?

Thanks!

Mine is in the trunk. It has a Dailey Engineering pump. I know Danny Popp sells a different style tank that he mounts in the front fender that requires you to move computer.

Mine is an Aviad that is mounted where the battery was located. Battery in the trunk.

Get the Dailey pump and pan. You will be glad you did because of the lack of clearance on the scavaging lines with the other systems.

Did you need to relocate the PCM as well, or is it still down below? Battery relocation was on my to-do list anyhow, but PCM relocation sounds kind of hard since mine is still a street car. I can't just confiscate my wife's legroom.

My PCM was already relocated because of another reason related to aero mods. Mine is a dedicated track car. Mine was relocated to the passenger footwell and truthfully is not even noticeable to the occasional passenger I have in the car. Also, not sure you would even need to relocate the PCM but I suspect you would. By the way, why add a dry sump to a street car?? Not meaning any disrespect but you are not pushing the car to its limit typically when you don't have a roll cage and other safety mods so I would think you would be unlikely to need a drysump.

I have the 4 stage Aviaid with a 3 gallon ARE tank. The system works a intended. If I had to do it all over, I would get the Dailey to eliminate the scavenge lines - major PIA to route. I would get a tank that had the lines all tangential instead of the top ones being radial. Battery is in the passenger footwell, PCM is relocated inside the car, fuse box is totally replaced with a custom PDM setup.

Cool setup. Where is your Air Intake?? Is it turned backwards and inside the car?? I don't see any air intake going to the headlights with your forward tilting radiator.

Also how did you lay your radiator forward.. i have been thinking about this for quite some time.??

Radiator has a custom bracket to support and I have tabs on the radiator that connect to the frame rail. The intake is via this sealed box in the cabin, fresh air currently comes thru the old HVAC entrance. I have higher than desired IATs (saturates at the firewall temperature) so I am going to make some mods this winter....

Custom aluminum radiator bracket I fabricated

Custom flipped intake in a sealed box

Tab on the radiator to connect to frame rail

Interesting setup. Not sure I want to rotate the air intake to inside the cabin with no ram air or cold air for the engine to breathe. Nice job on the radiator bracket fab. That radiator looks bigger than many I have seen. Is it custom built??

We turned the intake around as well to make room for a waterfall to work with the laid down radiator. The intake now pulls air from the base of the windshield, a high pressure area. Stock C5s breathe from underneath the car; an area you don't want to be high pressure (front end lift). Modified intakes breathing from the headlight area don't see much high pressure either.

Do you know the width and height of that tank?
And, did you relocate the PCM to make room below?

Thanks!

Mine is a street car in the sense that it's a 90 minute drive to and from the track. And I don't have a place to put a truck and a trailer, so I plan to keep driving it to the track for the forseeable future.

I was doing fine with the LS6 and baffles in the batwing, but on my last track day a valve dropped, a piston shattered, the block cracked, and most of my coolant poured into the oil pan... bit of a disaster. Another LS6 isn't out of the question, but I'd much rather go with a stroked LS3 or LS7 and I don't want to do either of those without a dry sump.

2.0 Gallon 7.5x14" Dry Sump Oil Tank

No, but we did notch the frame for the drain. It is running on a Holley Dominator piggyback to the OE PCM. The Holley is inside the pass side footwell.

Those of you who relocated the PCM into the cabin - how / where did you route the PCM's wiring harness into the cabin? Just hit it with a hole-saw, or is there an existing hole that can be re-used?

Thanks!

My mechanic did it for me but I just asked him and he said that we had enough slack in the wires to mount it under the dash in the passenger footwell area. It did NOT require drilling a hole. He fished it through a factory hole in the firewall.
