Cov-19 Affecting Tracks?
Will this Virus Hysteria affect tracks being open this season? I hope not...

Edit: Orange County (south of LA between LA & San Diego) has gone "Shelter in Place" through 3/31. I'm sure LA will follow and that should hit tracks like Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, Auto Club Speedway, etc

Not yet in the northwest, but it seems inevitable.
A race was cancelled, but in theory the track days are still on. So far.
My favorite track has a no-specators policy now to keep the people-count low. Not sure if that will be enough or not.

VIR shut down until April 1st at a minimum. Most of the activities can be moved outside. However, for organizations that have in car instruction the student headsets can become a problem if you have more than one student. I checked with the TrackCom developers at HMS Motorsports and they told me their Student Headset can be completely soaked in 91+% Isopropyl Alcohol as long as the headset is powered off. Just have a bottle with a tray to set the headset in and bury it in alcohol between sessions. Of course you also have to clean your hands before and after handling the headset. Will become sort of a PIA.
I signed up to instruct at two schools in April at VIR. I am sort of thinking they will get canceled as well. China's big splurge of illnesses took around two months from the beginning of the bell curve until it dropped off. If we follow that pattern that means the soonest things will start up again is in the middle of May.

LOL...alcohol soaked headsets that don't dry completely could make for an interesting drive when electrical current is fed and a small spark develops due to a frayed wire, static, etc. Obviously I'm just joking but it can ignite under the right conditions. The good news is if you're wearing the headset and it does ignite the chances of the coronavirus surviving is pretty much non existent so you probably won't get the flu.
Bad news in my emails today...HOD has cancelled at least one event for the beginning of April and I'm afraid more are going to happen in NorCal.
Shelter in place is the new norm

The NCCC Autocross in Sierra Vista AZ this Sunday is still on as of yesterday. The Porsche Club cancelled their March 28 & April autocross events at AMP and rescheduled for May 2, at this time.

My first event scheduled at VIR is the April Potomac Audi advanced drivers only event. Each Spring I look forward in anticipation of this impressively run event featuring world class speakers. The field is full of fast cars and impressive drivers that carry quite a bit more speed than I can achieve in my stock power C5. I usually rely on a tune up event or two to feel my best running is such elite company. This year my early events have all been cancelled and the April events now seem to be in question.
I am looking forward to seeing friends and students at the track. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Time to keep our priorities straight and perhaps get in a bit of additional car preparation. ponycar

I finally purchased a C5 Z street/track car last month and now here we are. I live near PBIR. They have two AutoX a month, drags every week and lots of club events on the roadcourse. They have yet to close their track, but seems inevitable. Let’s hope everything can survive these closures.

My home track, Eagles Canyon Raceway (DFW area) is still going strong. The Open Track Day is being held this Saturday, although with a reduced number of drivers. Looks like we will be doing lead / follow for instruction to maximize social distance...

...and they just cancelled the next two track days. In theory, the schedule after that remains unchanged. That seems optimistic. All signs point to suppression measures lasting for months, not weeks.
Seems like we should be able to just pay online and use a louder bullhorn for the drivers' meetings. But that would still require first-aid crews that are willing to risk contact with random bleeding people.
