Most Fan friendly track??
After hearing about the problems at COTA, I am curious as to what everybody fells is the most fan friendly ALMS/TUDOR Track in North America.
I have only been to Sebring, Daytona and Road Atlanta so I must pick Road Atlanta. Corvette Corral ratings too??
Thanks,
Julian

Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta. Real natural generous elevation changes are key.
Sebring is ok, but limited visibility and it is tough to watch the cars down the final straight, into the final turn.

Watkins Glen has a lot of great viewing places and some great grandstand seats. An infield ticket is the best bet. Stay away from the front straight grandstands unless you are in the top several rows and don't even bother with the pit grandstands unless you like watching with your head turned 189 degrees. NASCAR fans like to watch the pits but those grandstands are terrible for watching anything else. I like standing inside of T1 and T2, the T2 outside grandstands, the Esses Grandstands, walking along the back straight where you can get close to the cars at triple digit speeds (just a guardrail and a 4 ft fence and some safety distance separate the spectators from the cars), walking around the inside of the carousel, walking through the pedestrian tunnels to get inside the boot section, walking the outside of the boot section from T7 up the hill to T8. Walking the inside of the track from T9 to T10, the T10 Grandstands, watching from the paddock around the garage and near the bridge to the outside of the track.
The NASCAR race disrupts this somewhat since they like to charge big bucks for the grandstands and place VIP tents in a lot of the inside viewing areas but you can still fight your way past the motor homes to walk the back straight, the carousel and the NASCAR straight towards T10. Be ready to hoof it as there is a lot of spectacular places to watch a race and you will want to see all of them.

I have to vote for The Glen. Bill Dearborn described viewing at The Glen very well, but I think the attraction of The Glen, goes beyond the track's multiple viewing options. The people at the track are great, as is everyone in the town.
The village of Watkins Glen offers many excellent restaurants, as well as the beautiful Watkins Glen State Park. The people in town always seem truly happy, to see the fans and racers alike.
I like watching races at Lime Rock, but the track doesn't have that welcoming feel(for lack of a better term), at least to me. Considering the size of the track, and the quality and quantity of the track's facilities, I just always thought the their tickets, were overpriced too. The number of hotels and restaurants in the area, is somewhat limited, and most are pricey. It is a pretty area though, and offers some great roads, for driving.
I've always heard good things about both Road America and Atlanta, but I've yet to get to Road America, and it's been 30+ years since I've seen Road Atlanta.

Road America is the national park of race tracks. The experience of watching a race there is without equal in this country. Then go into Elkhart Lake and check out the historic post race hangouts.

Fan friendly would be Sebring. It's not my favorite track to drive but if you're a fan it's great.
btw - Is the 12 Hour a race with a party, or a party with a race.?
One year I sent the Audi crew over to Green Park at night. They will never totally recover from that experience.

I've never been a spectator at Sebring, but I've driven it, and being it's so flat I don't see how there could be many spots to actually view a race. I've heard over the years that it is however a great party, as posted above, and for some fans perhaps that trumps all.
I would love to attend the 12 hour race someday though.
Road America is indeed a great track to view a race due to the many elevation changes. One of my favorite spots is part way around the carosel up in the woods. Bring a lawn chair and a cooler of suds. Between 7 and 8 is also pretty cool, especially if they have the big screen set up.

Sebring isn't bad. The employees have always been great. If you have a friend with a bucket truck it is even better. On top of a RV or semi gets great views too. The upside of being flat is you don't get as tired. I'm going up to Petit and those hills can be a work out.
