New C5/C6 REAR Essex/AP Racing Sprint Big Brake Kit...you asked for this one!
Well, this took far longer than I would have hoped, but we got 'er done!
Over the past couple of years we've had a lot of requests for a rear big brake kit to match the Hardbar T1 kit, and our subsequent Front Essex Designed Sprint Competition BBK. We designed our Endurance Rear Kit, but some customers told us that they didn't need a parking brake, or that they'd like to share components with their front Sprint or T1 Kit.
Since the front and rear spindles on these cars are the same, some of those customers took matters into their own hands and installed our front Sprint Kit on the rear of their car. We've never condoned that, as it requires a new master cylinder to achieve proper brake bias.
Now we have a new option however, our Rear Sprint BBK for the C5 & C6. This kit uses the same caliper bracket, two-piece discs, and brake lines as our front Sprint kit. The only difference is that we had AP Racing do a special run of CP8350 calipers with smaller pistons. These calipers are sized to properly mate up to either of our front kits (Sprint or Endurance), as well as the Hardbar T1 front kit. Front to rear bias is properly maintained without the need for a different master cylinder.
The pads and discs in the front and rear Sprint Kits use are identical, which means you only really need to keep one set of spares on hand. For example, if you were at the track and your front pads started wearing thin, you could swap them with the rear pads to extend their life. You could also just keep one spare set of iron discs in your trailer.
Since our kit locates the caliper on the same plane as the OEM caliper, you can also run most aftermarket OEM replacement style discs with our calipers if you had to in a pinch (for example if you cracked a disc and didn't have a spare racing disc on hand).
Despite a massive increase in heat capacity and overall capability, our system and the OEM rear system are within 1.5 lbs. of each other in weight!
