Default Engine Failure vid

I was shifting from 4th to 5th during our morning warmup session just trying to take it easy. I'm just glad I didn't hit anything.

Anyone have a good source for an LS6 or equivalent engine?

Dang! Lucky that didn't happen near something large and immobile! If you didn't destroy the heads, you could cheap out and slap your top end on an LS1 bottom end.

Gyah! I just bought a C5Z because everyone told me the engines were rock solid! Can you give some details in the car? Glad you're ok - there are few spots at VIR where a big fast spin doesn't end in something much worse.

Wow!

Glad you are ok, David. PM me and I can point you to someone that may have a lead on a replacement.

1) Glad you walked away safely
2) Would love to know the root cause of the failure when you take it apart
3) Sorry, wish I had an LS6 replacement lead for you

With oil/smoke and a spin (oil on the rear tires) I think it's already apart

that sucks.

you can still get the last iteration LS1 long blocks from GM here and there, they make virtually as much power as an LS6, and for sure enough to work fine in ST3

Are those LS1 blocks or LS6 blocks?

Youzer!!! Spectacular! I'd say you used up all of your luck. Best of luck in finding a new motor for your car though

Glad u ok, can't see why that happened.

ATI has crate motors from $3800 to $9000 pick your HP etc.

If this happens to me there is no way I will have a local shop rebuild mine. Unless it's a VERY well regarded one that has been in business for 20+ years.

Get a good crate motor.

Yeah, glad you're okay. That was a bunch of spins. It didn't sound like a money shift, but can't tell for sure as it let go right at the shift.

I think you handled it well. Of course there wasn't much you could have done, but your hands looked like instinct kicked in.

Wow, you almost made it all the way down to the firing range! Jegs offers a number of crate engines from GM Performance.

Glad you got through all of that w/o hitting anything.

Backstraight at VIR ate mine a couple of years ago. Nothing at all as spectacular as yours thank goodness. I have now been running a forged bottom end LS6 that was built very close to your location. PM sent.

David, it was good to see you again. Sorry about the car. The blue cloud of smoke was impressive.

You got lucky. Several years back, at sears point, in qualifying I had an oil adapter come loose. Oil went on the rear tires going into turn 9 with my foot buried in the throttle in 4th gear. I got lucky and gently backed it into the tires in t-10 with some body damage, but as I sat there other cars hit my oil and one came straight toward me. Luckily, I didn't get hit, but it was the one time I thought about my passenger door bars and I got out of the car and away as fast as I could. They say to stay in the car, but there was no way I was gonna be someones stop.
