Default Opinions on Carbotech XP-20

I moved up from the XP-12 to 20 at VIR a few weeks ago and noticed a big differnce in braking. The 20s seemed to have a longer consistent braking while the 12s seemed to have a hard initial bite and seemed to stop harder than I found with the 20s. It could have been from using the same rotors from the 12s and not bedding them right. The 12s aren't lasting as I'm getting faster. Do the 20s last longer? Do you like them better?

I've only got a few sessions on my 20's but I can tell you that they are much better than the XP-10's that I melted a few months ago on Hoosiers. Consistent and linear, Carbotech recommended these over the 16's because they were a higher temp rating and were more rotor friendle than the 16's.

Shoot Carbotech Adam a PM, he will be able to help you make an educated decision.

Dan,

I got a set from Danny at Nationals to try and I will run them the next time the car hits the track. Not sure when that will be though....

Stay away as far as you can from Carbotech. There are better pads out there. Never take free pads. Think about it.

Interesting perspective.

I will weigh that against the COUNTLESS Carbotech pads I have run on my Z06 and two Cobras over the past seven years.

I've ran a few sets of different carbotechs. I only ran a weekend or two on the xp20s and I don't like them so much. They also are showing a little tapering. I agree with the op's analysis. I put some raybestos 41s and really like them. I think carbotech makes good pads but the raybestos are better to me and don't show tapering after several days of track days. I think at somepoint it comes down to personel choice...almost as bad as oil selection lol.

I have to disagree. Carbotech makes great pads. Dan, I would not expect 20's to last as long as 12's.

Backing up statements like this would help credibility. Countless people have had good experiences with Carbotech pads.

I didn't even look at their 20 compound, perhaps I should have. How is wear supposed to be compared to the XP12s we all know? Those really didn't last long for me.

I'm bad about keeping records and I've got several sets of pads I can't identify in the garage and I switched from a c6 to a c5 this year...so with all those qualifiers I think the xp20 is an enduro style pad that is suppose to be longer lasting than xp12s. I'm sure Adam will come along and clear this up during the work week.

Big fan of the XP20s. I've run XP16s and PFC01s as well and love their initial bite and heat tolerance. Slightly longer life than the XP16s.

I've been through 3-4 sets and will continue to use them.

I like my xp20/xp10 combo. I was using DTC70s before and prefer the carbotechs. I am just a weekend HPDE guy.

Just got a set of xp20 / xp10 which I am going to run at VIR. We will see how they compare to the H pads I currently run on 4 corners.

The 20 is better and should last longer. Beding is the key, this is why I always recomend going the pre bed route. We have seen better wear and a better feel going with the pre bed option.

The latest iteration of the highly successful XP™ series of compounds. XP20™ is a step up from the highly successful XP16™ compound. With an extremely aggressive initial bite, the most linear torque curve to date and excellent fade resistance the XP20™ leads the highly successful XP™ series line of compounds from Carbotech™. XP20™ has a temperature range of 275°F to 2000°F+ (135°C to 1093°C+). Carbotech™ XP20™ maintains our tradition of having the outstanding release and modulation that has made all other Carbotech™ compounds so successful. The XP20™ as with other Carbotech™ compounds is very rotor friendly. Carbotech™ XP20™ is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.

Just for information I ran the XP20 compound on both front and rear axles for the 2012 SCCA Runoffs.

It was at Road America.

My car has to weigh 3550 lbs.

We ran 52 miles straight at 100% for the race.

I intend to use the same rotor/pad set for spring practice next year.

Your experience may vary, but I would think they will suit your needs.

Ok so does anyone have an actual measure of how much longer the XP20s last compared to the XP12s? 25% more? 50% more?

I use the XP12/XP10 combo, and like it, but I'm not too pleased with the life of the XP12s. They wear way too fast for my liking. I am thinking about switching to Raybestos ST43 or CL6 pads next.

Mark Babbit doesn't have to back up his statements. He just has to say them and entire oceans move.

CL RC6E will last quite a bit longer than XP12, about twice as long, perhaps more, on my car I'd say. They are significantly more expensive so I would try the XP20 first.

I have used all of these on the front of my C5Z:
XP10 (with street tires only)
XP12 (with Hoosier A6's)
RP2 Endurance Pad, (A6's)
XP20 (A6's)

The XP20's had the most consistnet feel and did last the longest, but only slightly. I didn't care for the feel of the RP2 as much as XP12 or XP20, the RP2 was hard to bed evenly. The XP20 is my prefered pad, just wish there was a lower cost option.
