my only issue with an relatively wide open venting like that is crap can get in the fuel tank pretty easily. I'd add a little filter or something to keep mice/bugs/brake dust etc out.

I was curious on what was really inside the canister so I ended up cutting it out. It turns out that you can reuse the hose connectors and just behind it there is a filter! I think I am just going to reuse that assembly to vent the lines and prevent the crap from going back in.
