Wow $110,000 for the ACR-X sounds like a steal. What does a factory Porsche Cup Car cost to race in their series, $200,000+? I'm sure GM could crank out Vette' race cars on the cheap and do very well with its own spec series. Sign me up.

Anyone else notice the name of the 01 Viper driver when it was shown on Versus? Corey Vetzsuk. Hmmmm......

Online results show the driver as being Larry Chance. I don't think that is the driver's real name either.

Those vipers are sweet, and yes vet's do suck compared to the acr-x, they are running low 1:50's at VIR full. I'd love to have one of those.

I am thinking about getting one of those ACR-Xs, they do look cool and racing in that group would be fun.

The C5 and C6 Corvettes could have done something like Spec Miata: spec out brakes, suspension and minor engine mods and "go at it." The T1 kit would be a great place to start. Upgrade the brakes, and maybe, maybe, add headers and a CAI. Put some harder tires on for longevity and voila! Spec Vette.

I watched the last few laps of the VIR race. Those cars looked and sounded good

If that's really how it was with Spec Miata, I'd be all about it. But when you're running in a "Spec" series where guys show up with anywhere between 5 and 50 thousand dollar Miatas, it's hard to think of it as a Spec series anymore...

That's racing. Unless you show up and jump in a random car like IROC, someone is always going to be spending more money than you. It's up to the rest of us to be smarter and work harder. Or at least copy those that do.

FR500S were/are the Miller Mustangs (~$50k), FR500C (~$125k) are Conti Challenge Cars and FR500GT (~$250k) is ALMS/Rolex prep.

Two local guys here from Augusta ran in the race - Larry is a local surgeon and the other guy has a lawn business (National may be one of his customers...) - not sure where Larry placed but his last name does start with a C....and he wanted to make sure I watched it (missed it since I was sweating at VIR at the time).

A gentleman here in the Twin Cities bought a new 997 Cup car a couple of years ago. He spent about $250k to run IMSA for the year plus the purchase price of the car.

Pricing not cited. Doubt they will be $110,000 though.

This series has been fun to watch as we've set the DVR to record it. Keith Verges is from APEX driving school in the DFW area.

Glad to see VS showing some road racing.
