Default Let's talk brake duct hoses..

Of which I am without. Tore up the hoses that came with my brake ducts last season; the 18x10 rims with 315's carved into them at near full-lock turns. Went to a local shop (Detroit Flexible Metal Auto, Troy, MI) to find some replacements-ouch. They wanted $13 bucks a foot. I need about six feet of hose. Needless to say I didn't purchase. So, what's the cheapest I can reasonably use? And no, I won't be using dryer ducting, Ken....

You could try these guys:

http://store.quantummotorsports.com/...products_id=72

Although their website does not specifically mention hose I bet they could probably sell you some.

You can use Scat or Sceet. I used Sceet. Unlike the cheap crap. This will last all season. Mine have been hit by 315s on 10.5" rims too.

As long as were on the subject ...
Got a C4 , plan on making some brackets to hold the hose closer to the caliper .
Should I make a dust sheild to seal up the area around the caliper ? or leave it open ?

pegasusracing.com has neophrene hose in 36" lengths. The price is very reasonable iirc.

Try Quantum Motorsports, they make some good brackets for all Corvettes. http://store.quantummotorsports.com/...th=12_26_28_37

Check Discovery Parts they have high temp and mid temp. I think I paid $60.00 for 10 feet of 4" mid temp. JD

That brings up a point for anyone's thoughts. The shielded rotor is great for cooling while on track. However, does it cause the heat to be retained when you stop unless you have an inline cooling fan which can be turned on. Does this make a difference?

TIA

I would have just repaired the damaged section.

For C4 ducts, they are simple to make, search my thread in C4 tech.

Have Quantum set up (with the cheap hoses) on my C-6, Z51 with 2 pc rotors, Carbotech XP 10s up front with ~ 8K miles (autoX, track days, weekend cruising). No problems with rotors or fluid (ATE 200&blue ).
YMMV

front duct cooling? You don't have to go very fast at all to benefit from them. Get too hot and you have brake fade, or they go out altogether! Options are one or all of the below:

1. better pads
2. cooling
3. better fluid
4. less heat transfer (stainless pistons)
5.???? am I missing something?

if you are seeing a lot of wear on the hose in the same spots over and over, adjust the routing by moving the plastic "outlet" and possibly controlling hose angles with zip ties to control arms.

i use SCAT hoses, they are expensive but one piece lasts me about 6-7 DEs as opposed to cheap stuff that had to be replaced a lot more often and would sometimes tear if I tightened the slamps too much. Before I re-routed the hose, I was getting about 4 days out of the fancy ones.
