Default Best battery for track car?

My battery died from sitting over the winter. The car is a dedicated track car and I need a replacement battery that will handle the high under hood temps and pounding on the race track. Any recommendations?

I've got a 13.5 lb Hawker Genesis that I bought in '01 for $65 and it's on my C5Z and still working!

At NASA CMP in Feb it was 25 degrees and snowing and the car sat out all night, and it fired right up.

The Braille batteries are really nice. The 14lb one should be more than enough for even winter starts. If you only use it for racing and during warm months you could get away with the 11lb. They are right around $200. There is also some knock off brand for less but I'd go with the Braille. They also have some easy to use mounts. I used an Odyssey P680 on my old Carrera, but it's older technology, heavier, with less cold cranking amps.

Or a cut-off switch for it. The major battery kill for these cars is all the computer draw when not using them, so if you keep them charged up they last a very long time.

Default Track Car Battery

The battery I would suggest for a dedicated track car is an Optima "Yellow Top" D34-78.
It is made to take high vibration due to it's AGM (absorbed glass mat) construction--and will also take repeated charges during down times. Plus if punctured due to a track incident--it will not leak acid all over!

Deka (also known as Big Crank) is the same battery as a Braille at less than half the cost. They are all made by EastPenn in the USA. They are AGM and mine has been flawless. I wrapped mine in heatshield material. Here's my write-up.

I've been running a Hawker Odyssey 925MJT since 2006, metal case & using a 3-side aluminum hold-down - 26 pounds - stays on battery tender when in garage. No issues with heat.

I use the 11.5 pound Braille. It's remote located behind the passenger seat on the floor.

One of the big reasons batteries die after a short time (two weeks or so) of the car sitting is because when cars are "converted" to track duty some things are removed and that upsets the communications or the sensor states for the computers and so the computers never go to sleep. There are 4 computers in the C5 and they all talk to each other. If one doesn't sleep for some reason it keeps all the others awake and the result is a dead battery.
My 11 pound battery starts the car fine even in 20 degree weather after sitting for 2 or 3 weeks. If I remember to use my disconnect it can sit for months and start.

Braille is a rebadged Deka. Dont spend 2.5 times the premium for a label.

Grand Am outlawed the lithium batteries that many of the teams were running, as a "cost savings" rule. Might be able to pickup some of those for less than retail.

I said the same thing above. Why pay more for a label?

What is needed to mount the braille/Deka battery in a c5? Does anyone make a secure mounting system or am I on my own to create one?

They make a smaller battery box that is held where your original one went. ATI make a kit for it all.
