Default Mount a Momo wheel in your C6

When Callaway Europe called us looking for an engineered solution for mounting a race wheel in their GT4 race cars we were happy to help. It was good motivation because we're also converting our C6Z into a race car and sooner or later we'd need to solve the same problem.

After designing the broach and running the finite element analysis, here is the final product:

Made in the USA with aircraft grade 6061 Aluminum, this adapter weighs only 82 grams. It bolts directly to your factory column so the car can be returned to stock with no modifications. In addition, you'll retain the factory steering wheel alignment.

The Pfadt C6 steering wheel adapter allows direct bolt on of Momo or Sparco racing wheels and any wheel that uses a 6 on 70mm bolt pattern. You can also bolt on a quick-release system.

If your car has started down the slippery slope of becoming a track car, adding a race wheel is a great option. Retail is $150. Give us a call with any questions.

Nice piece Aaron, will it also fit on a C4 or C5?

John,

The C4 and C5 use the 'old' GM spline. Momo makes an adapter for those. We will probably make a C4/5 version of this piece, but the C6 one is the unique part. It is what we have available now.

There are no other C6 wheel adapters made.

Airbags scare me. What's the install like?
Simple!

1. Disconnect the battery
2. Remove the cover/airbag portion of the wheel
3. Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors in the wheel
4. Remove the main nut
5. Using a puller (GM or otherwise, I used parts of a pilot bearing puller) remove the wheel.
6. Install the Pfadt adapter using the factory nut
7. Bolt on your new wheel or quick release
8. Re-connect the battery

Done!

Because the clock spring mechanism stays in place, you can also hook up your horn to the button assy from your new wheel. The wires all rotate together with the wheel.

Doesn't the missing airbag make the system get funny?

No. The light comes on and the system is compromised, but the car works fine, no adverse effects. This is a modification for racing, for street use, keep the airbags.

Caravaggio makes a sweet suede wheel that keeps the stock airbags.

A 3-ohm resistor usually works to simulate an airbag.

Momo makes a C5 version. It is a bit clunky, but it works great. You can find them online for like $80. On those you need to trim the plastic a little. Maybe we'll make a broach for the C5 and make that version also. Too many projects....

The one the I have been using is not all that great and it takes two hands. Give me a ring and I can help you find one. We'll put together a package for our website and that way people won't be stuck looking for these parts. Expect to pay $350 to $400 for a quality quick release.

I wish you made an adapter like this for the C4. The Momo one does look clunky and cheap looking.
