Default Can I Get One More Track Day On This Rotor ?

This is the original rotor on my 08 Z06. It has seen 18K miles and 4 track days. I use stock pads.

My guess would be yes.
Not a lot of cracks but you do have one that is beginning to reach the outer edge.
I have seen much worse ran very hard at VIR and lasted.
Just keep a close eye on it after every session which you should be doing anyway.

Enjoy the track

Howie, what's this? Optical Illusion, balancing cut, or a crack on the rear of the rotor

With that one crack at the top hole already progressing SO close to the edge , I'd bet you could get about 4/5th's of a session out of that rotor ... is that good enough?

We don't want to start calling you BROKEN HOWIE!

I don't really know .... I didn't see it !!!

What is a "balancing cut" .... I'm guessing thats what it is. It looks too straight and wide to be a crack ..... at least compared to the others.

I appreciate that Gary

I don't need any more rears at the moment. My originals look very good .... no cracking.

And I do have a spare rotor ready to go

Well you could. HOWEVER, you will either be changing rotors after your first session, or scrapping blue Z06 parts off a wall

Things that make you throw a rotor away:

1) Any crack longer than 1/8"

2) Any crack that connects hole-to-hole

3) Any crack that gets within 1/8" of the edge.

Your rotor is toast.

To err on the safe side get new ones. I don't have much experience with drilled rotors, but I do think they tend to crack faster and more severely than solid when they do crack.

On the other hand, I have cracked many rotors while on track and it has not been that big of a deal. I feel the thumping and if it is a track day I just pit.

Additionally Howie is running at WSIR, a track where rhetorically you don't really need brakes. I sometimes feel like I could go a whole season of racing there on one set of pads and rotors. Auto Club Speedway by comparison I can crack them and taper them down to nothing in one race weekend.

Just my thoughts.....

Thanks Tom and Frank for your clear and distinct answer

And thanks Oli for putting me right back in the indecisive mode again

The only cracks are on the driver front rotor. This must have something to do with mostly right hand turns and AH since I run in Comp Mode and always brake in a straight line.

Anyway, is there any reason I cannot replace just this rotor. It will be an almost new rotor while the passenger front will be quite used but uncracked.

Thanks for the input guys

1 & 2 can be combined, since the holes are definitely more then 1/8" apart

If it's even a question why take the risk? More importantly why put any of the rest of us at risk either?

if that rotor wasn't holy, I'd run it till I felt it in the pedal.

considering the holes, I'd save it for the street.

I'd replace it -- they can't be that expensive.
