Default Gutted the T1 car today (Pics Inside)

Got motivated today to start my new T1 DIET. I removed everything except the dash and lower covers. I took the console to the band saw and did some creative cutting so I could reinstall active handling cover/switch. I also cut the fuel door switch out too and modified it. I am happy with how it turned out and yes Phoenix did a nice job of painting the interior when it was built in 03.

I put everything on the scale including nuts, bolts, retainers, etc. Total weight that was removed was 93 lbs. My rear section did have some burn through but it looks like Roush or Robbins did some preventive fire maintenance when thay had the car. The heat shields were intact and the aluminum padding as seen in the pictures were already there. The drivers foot well looked great and no burn through what so ever. If I can get rid of my winter weight I think I should be good for the new year.

Bad part is for NASA ST2 is I will have to add serious ballast back to the car to make weight.

I am waiting for my new drivers belts to come in so I can put the seat in and get my new total weight. Then it will visit Mr. Popp for an alignment and corner balancing.

Here ya go,

Aaron

Looks good Aaron!

Your tub looks like it gets as hot as mine in the back! I'll be pulling the exhaust and stuff off tomorrow to get a better look at what I can add to avoid flaming myself.

Not sure Wally, I will put it on the scales tomorrow afternoon. I will just throw my seat, helmet,Hans, suit, etc in to see a rough #. Gas is on E already too.

Stay tuned tomorrow evening for #'s.

Hey Aaron,

I'm gutting our car too. Since I'm obviously not running T1 (C4) I can remove a lot more stuff = weight.

It goes in tomorrow morning for the six point cage!

Default New weight update!

Drum roll everybody!

The weight with me in the car along with Suit,Shoes, helmet,Hans, gloves and a 1/3 tank of gas is?

3,181 Lbs

New SCCA T1 weight 3,180.

I am extremely happy with that considering that is where I would want to be at on gas at the end of the race. Any less and it may starve and thats when someone can go right by you.

Now I just have to do my fuel load math correctly and make sure I don't go under that number.

What are all you other T1 boys at weight wise???

Aaron

I am with David. You Rat Bastard (just kidding of course) how much do you weigh? 27 lbs?

I am going to weigh my car on the official scales at our next at Auto Club Speedway in two weeks. I will report back then. But I am guessing I am still going to be at around 3250 near empty on fuel. I weigh about 200 lbs before all my gear.

Wow! After taking 71 lb out of the interior, mine came in at 3,28x lb on reserve fuel. So, just above the old limit. Aarrgghh. I weigh about 200.

Did you put the plastic block back in below the gas pedal? I did. I think it limits travel(?)

dang buddy, youve got some sort of freak lightweight T1 car.

Mines ST2 only, I've got headers (dropped a bunch of weight), removed headlamp assemblies (another bunch of weight) and some other small things. I'm at 3154 with a little less than 1/2 a tank.

Aaron,
That stripped out car looks good. I've never had the chance (or desire) to take a band saw to a corvette but it looks like you did well. Nice numbers.

Now them there's some pretty solid digits my friend!! My car was 3320 post-race before, and survey says I removed just under 90 lbs, so I expect I'm going to be right around 3230. I'm 180lbs in full gear (suit, helmet, HANS, etc.).

David,
Don't you remember what I look like?

I weigh 190 complete with race gear head to toe. That is 10 pounds too high with my winter weight, so I need to lay off the junk food and work out a little more. I am normally around 180 loaded.

All I did was remove the stuff we were told to. Anyone is welcome to come look at it. Here is a picture with just the car on the scales and then when I jumped in with gear it was 3,181.

adding ballast for NASA isn't necessarily a bad thing. Hang it really low in the right rear corner.....might actually make you go faster.
