and SASCO sports at VIR is now a Hoosier tire dealer. Drive up and get tires, plus mounting.
Saturday PBOC Winterfest event at Sebring I ran a brand new set of Hoosier's Daytona Prototype tires. That was the third set I had purchased new.
On Sunday I put on a brand new set of Michelins like they run in the IMSA ALMS Series in the GT2 class and went 5 seconds a lap faster!
Just though I would throw a wrench in and spoil the Hoosier party on this thread.

I bought 3 sets of the discontinued Hoosiers DP's for $600.00 a set from CCW in Daytona Beach. That's why I fell for them, the great price. What I forgot in the process was that they were a "spec" tire. All cars in the Rolex DP Series run the exact same tire, no other tire competition, so Hoosier built them tough and "hard"! This year they are running Pirellis and they are 2-4 sec's a lap faster than the old Hoosiers from last year.
They were terrible, would not stick and I could not hook up coming off of a turn. Hated them. But I had to practice my best smooth driving style and finally used them up.
So now I bought the Michelins from Performance Tech, a ALMS race shop in Hollywood, FL, for $1500.00 I think and love them. As far as I know they are the same tire size and compound that they are running on their new GT2 Viper in the ALMS Series this year.

Sorry, Buzz. Wrong tires both times. Get yourself a set of Hoosier R6s and you will be faster than the Pirellis. Been there, seen that.
And if you REALLY want to haul azz, get a set of Hoosier A6s. They won't last as long, but you will have a ball driving on them.

I agree. Some of those special race series tires are not as fast as the regular tires you can buy. Some are built to be tough to last for endurance races, etc.
Also, one test is not conclusive anyway. Without strict test controls, many things could have gone into the time difference.

Were they used?
Tommy Archer tried Michelins last summer and told me that he couldn’t get them himself without some Dodge pull. He also said they took almost 6 months to get.
They might have been something unusual, but I just got the impression that Michelins are tough to get in the US or if you’re not a prototype team.
Not used, brand new. I'm a good & fast customer of theirs and they will be racing several cars (Vipers & Elans) in the 2008 ALMS GT-2 and IMSA Lites series. Is there a connection? Yes. See, like always it's who you know as usual.
