The skid pad is a part of the 1st course (lightning), and the KART course, so I think you will get your skid pad.
Also, they will have enough club track days that you won't need any memberships. PDA already has 3-4 weekdays and a 3 day weekend, BMW club a couple days, and I am sure many other's are jumping on board as well.
VIR Membership is $3,000 / year.* If you pay it all up front then all the member days are FREE. If use the payment plan, $500 down & $300 / month Member track days are $150 a day
* VA and NC residents. Other states residents is less IIRC

How many days are included with membership? That price is pretty STEEP. If I divide $3000 by say a typical HPDE cost of $250 per day, that gives me 12 days. With the payment plan, it's almost $6000, which would give you 24 regular club days. To each his own, but I can't say that I could even do 12 days a year, let alone at a single track, and pay such a premium. Like I said, there will be enough clubs with track days at Thunderbolt that you could be there all summer long without worrying about a membership, but to each his own.
I would assume that there is also the use of the club and club facilities as a member. That should be considered too.
I also happen to see that if you are outside the tri-state area the prices are much lower. I happen to have a residence in Vermont which may become my full time residence if that is true.
