Brake malfunction appeared to be the cause (we were standing from where these pix were taken) since the fronts were never locked. The rears appeared to lock twice (probably oh-s!*t downshifts). Eerie and amazing.
Kudos to the Aston team for getting that car back on the track, and for building a car that survived its Kittyhawk adventure.

Great pics!
The best was the track announcer (maybe ALMS radio) - "Brakes don't
work when the car is in the air!"
I was up by the Honda bridge, but managed to get a quick shot - from a distance.

I am the guy who had a similar but much worse crash last year in the A/S race at the late summer national at MO. I lost the brakes going into turn 7. The left front steel braided line decided to fail at just the right time going into turn 7 at about 135 MPH. What fun?
I had to dodge 2 other cars and then I took off. I flew about 90 feet, rolled three times and stopped on top of the tires at the bottom of the hill. The workers said I set the recorded for making it down the hill further than anyone else ever at MO. What a great honor.
The car was gone and I was a little sore but nothing was broke. It was a long ride home. Built another car and used all the drive line off the old car and have put the car on the pole in its first two nationals and finished second in each race.

Holy frijoles, that second pic is so surreal it looks photoshopped!
Two questions:
1. Where on the track did that happen?
2. How was the TV coverage, I have it recorded (or does it air this weekend? Can't remember).

This was in qualifying, though, right? I hope they showed a replay.
I studied the first pic with the Porsche sign, but can't place it in my mind on the back straight. I guess I'm usually focused on braking at that point.

a) the Porsche sign is a temporary ALMS video screen so you won't be able to place it
b) video

c) I've gotten together with 2 other photographers (including the guy who's pictures are posted above) to string together about 9 or 10 shots of the incident in a panorama style sequence. I've got a bunch of photoshop work ahead to make them into one image and match the color but if you interested in a permenant copy, hopefully we'll have prints available for order by next weekend.

As soon as I get my Ron Davis rad in & my DRM ducts installed, I'll start working on the photos. Got to get the car ready for Monday-Tuesday event with TracQuest at MidOhio.
