CAR HISTORY
The car was originally built from a stock frame by Dick Danielson in 1979, as a car he would build, then race, then sell to finance his next race car. He ran two races in 1979, a National and then the T/A race at Road America. The car ran well but was forced to DNF due to a flat tire finishing 31st. At the end of the season the car was sold to Larry Joel who was the owner of many of cars that Jerry Hanson raced during the late 70's early 80's, the car was sponsored by LSI Corp. They had their Crew Chief go through the car for the 80 SCCA Club and TA season. Jerry ran approx 7 races with the car, IRP, his home track of Brainerd, Blackhawk Farms, Road America and Road Atlanta. In 1980 he ran both the Brainerd and Road America TA Rounds but again DNF’d due to motor problems while leading both races. However, Jerry had earned enough points to be invited to the CSPRRC at Road Atlanta. Jerry was no stranger to the Runoffs and was, even at that time, the holder of more SCCA National Championships than any other person(and still is today). Jerry qualified two cars for the Run Offs that year, ASR and BP. Jerry won the last BP National Championship in this car before BP was folded into the GT-1 class. For the 1981 season Jerry parked the Corvette and switched to a Chevy Monza with limited results. During this time the car was completely rebuilt to better complete with the impending tube frame race cars. The car underwent a complete rebuild by Jerry Hemmingson which included a completely fabricated rear clip, only utilizing some elements of the original Corvette “Birdcage”. When this was completed, the car was sold to Roy Woods and he ran the last three races of the 1981 Trans Am season with it at Mosport 11th, Laguna Seca 4th/6th, and Sears Point 25th/9th. Then in 1982, disappointed with his performance with the Monza, Jerry was again back in the Corvette for several races and he had dramatically better results. Jerry ran the T/A season opener at Road Atlanta and won, and then followed up his win at Road Atlanta with another win in July at the T/A race at Road America. There is an other entry into the log book for an additional TA race but I need to verify that it ran that race.

After Hansen moved on from the Corvette it was sold to Bob Kivela who ran the car in SCCA Club events in the North East and several more TA events at Lime Rock in 1987 and 88 as well as the Detroit GP in 88 with varied success. Bob took off the original body and added the latest C4 body to run the TA races. Also, according to the log book Boris Said drove the car in a National race at Mosport in 1991 in order to make the Runoffs that year. Bob recalls that Boris was either 1st or 2nd in that race with the car. After that the car passed through several people's hands until I saw it for sale and knew what it was and bought it. I had a new body made from the original molds and had the car painted to the correct paint color and scheme from 1982. I had some light mechanical work completed on the car. It runs but needs to have the suspension and brakes gone through as well as some more mech freshening. In all, this is an excellent car that is a SCCA National Champion as well as a Trans Am race winner. There are only approx 5 Corvettes that won a TA race overall before the tube frame era started in 1982 and the list includes John Greenwood, Jerry Hansen (two races with this car), Greg Pickett and Eppie Wietzes. This is a historic and collectable car that should be finished and raced.
