Default 2001 C5Z track car - $23k

Selling because I’ve decided to go back to school and get my MBA. I planned on getting my racing license and competing in this, but my job is getting in the way of that. I won’t have any time in the next 2 years to drive the car and can’t afford the distraction of it sitting in the garage.

Bought from ryan0 on the forum April 2013. Here’s his original for sale thread.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...06-t1-st2.html

Comes with everything he listed except the CCW wheels. I now have 6 C5Z rear wheels that I use since scrubs are so much easier to find in 18”. Motor only has about 400 miles on it and made 365/352 with stock airbox and conservative tune at Cunningham Motorsports. Ryne says his dyno is stingy and the Hoosiers cost a few ponies on the printout (I don’t know how many Hp Hoosiers will hide on the dyno).

Since I bought the car, I’ve done the following:

• 3M vinyl wrap satin pearl with flat black accents and stripe
• Turn One rebuild steering rack and pump
• Replaced FL fender
• All new fluids – Amsoil Z-Rod oil and Redline diff and tranny fluid
• Aftermarket radiator fan
• New SKF LR bearing
• Relocated T1 tranny cooler to driver rear brake duct
• Dual catch cans
• DRM diff cooler
• Rebuild 3 rib diff with hardened output shafts and new seals/clutches (quaife no longer in)
• MGW short shifter
• Radio removed, but I still have it
• fixed several small wire routing and general cosmetic items

On my first day out at Homestead, I was running 1:43’s on used R6s and driving 80-90%. I think the car is capable of 1:39-1:40 at HMS as it sits now in T1 trim. I haven’t done any mods that would force it to change classes and Ryan ran T1, ST2 and TTS when he had it. It holds or held records at several tracks in CA so the car is setup very well. It has plenty of spare parts (spare spindles, rotors, pads, stock shifter, interior parts, brake duct hose, front bumper and under tray, side skirts, Cool suit box, Motorola CB radio with 2 noise canceling headsets), 2 spare 285/30/18 Hoosier R6 scrubs and 2 extra C5Z rear wheels (haven’t sanded them down and re-painted low gloss black yet, but I can before you buy).

I’m losing a few thousand in the sale, but really can’t see keeping it and doing grad school while still working full time. My loss is your gain. I can take any pics you may be interested in, just send the request. I will also be at Homestead on Sunday 8/25/13 to make sure there aren’t any issues with the car before selling. Feel free to stop by if you’re local.

If I were to keep it, here’s what I would focus on:

• New seat – the current one is from 2002 and has torn fabric on the outside edge
• Front wheel bearing (sounds like the LF bearing, but could be both) clicks but does not have any play in them
• Repair spare bumper and side skirts (small cracks in them), then vinyl wrap them

Asking $23,000.

When I bought the car, I had it shipped in an enclosed trailer with all the spares. It cost me about $1400 from CA to FL - about 3000 miles traveled. I believe the price is based on distance.

Sorry man, but I figure if I don't do it now it will never get it done. I will probably rent a track car a couple times a year just to get my fix. Also, instructing will keep me close to the sport as well.

Believe me, I haven't let go. Crack is a hard habit to break, lol.

I'm renting a full race ready C5Z for a track day on 9/28 since I'm already going into withdrawal! I've recently starting daydreaming about what is next, but it won't be until April 2015. It gives me plenty of time to figure out if I will go back to a C5Z or step up to a race ready C6.

Hey, it found a good home! ;-)

Here it is at Sebring this weekend. With good rubber and some clean laps it should be a low 20s car there.

Mike, be careful to boast too much about the car. I may beg for it back after school is over...

Dude! I know the feeling. Wish I would have seen this thread three weeks ago! It may have been coming back across the country right now.

Glad to see it's already back out on track.

Congrats on the car. Looks like it's found two good homes in 6 months.

Did you hit fluid or something? It went around quick.

Thanks! This weekend was a good shakedown but I can't wait to get some fresh rubber on it and push. It turned in that 2:27 with me short shifting and botching turn 1, 3, and 7. Should be able to get that much lower with a little more time out there.

I actually don't know but I have a theory. The wires that run to the rear tire sensors and speed sensor had melted on the exhaust. I pulled it off and re-wired the parts I found were melted. I think I missed some because I was getting intermittent active handling messages and the tail lights weren't working.

My buddy was on my tail when I went into the turn and he didn't lose grip so I don't think it was fluid but he said that it looked like my rear tires locked. Maybe the ABS was working and then cut because the signal was lost or something along those lines. I'm pulling the wires back out this weekend and rewiring the whole thing again. Should learn more then.

You're right, it's good to see it being driven. I know once I start school, the car would have either sat in the garage collecting dust or I would have dropped out of school after the first semester and been back on track (likely, the latter...).

I tell you, I've never felt more comfortable in a car than that one. Much more solid and stable than my previous street C6. It almost asked you to drive harder since it was so much more predictable.

Can't wait to get back into a caged race car. The wife already promised me that I can have one as a graduation present! It can't come soon enough...
