Default What front speakers are you guys using and how did you mount them?

I was going to use two 5 1/4" rockford q's on each side but the magnets were to big to fit and they had too much depth. I instead went with an mb quart 5 1/4" coaxial.

Did you guys cut up the grills to get bigger speakers to fit? Pics would be great.

I used the bose front enclosures, pulled the front piece off, made a piece of plywood to fit snug over it, and put 5-1/4 infinity components there. Had to shim the enclosure back a bit to fit the factory speaker cover back on.

Put the tweeters in the dash spots, but cutting out some plastic and mounting them recessed below the top of the speaker plate, and cut a hole in the speaker plate and glued the cover back on.

It's in my forum pics somewhere. Pretty cool install, but not exactly high end speakers. I didn't want to go big because they all seemed to deep to fit in the doors without hitting the window.

So the only thing that doesn't look stock on my system is the headunit, and that fits in nicely unlike some of these real crappy looking ones they have now.

But they are in there and it looks totally stock.

This is assuming you are putting them in the floor kick panel of a C4 and not the doors?

No, CentralCoaster put his mids in the doors, hence the "I put speakers in the dash" reference to his car. Finding a real easy way to fit a speaker larger than 4" diamater in the doors isnt easy to do. Usually you have to hack on something to make it fit. Of course, you sort of got to do the same on the late model c4's as well. I should know, ive had both versions. Allthough, in my 86 coupe, I like having the dash speaker option...makes it just that much easier to hide a tweeter or small coax in the dash, to provide a better chance in hell of a front soundstage.

I did a 3-way install in my 92 - Old Canton RS3's - 6.5" in the rockers, 4" mids in the lower doors and 1" tweets in the upper doors.

i want to mount my mids the same way as you but i am not too happy about putting holes in my door panel because i dont have a carpeted section...it is either put the mids there or above the dual 6.5 angles towards the seats...both be would around the same amount of work as i would have to build 'glass pods for the doors, but i could integrate the mounts for the mids to the mounts for the 6.5s as the mids are sealed back driver....hmmm
