Default Ideas for an amp rack

Ok guys, I've been thinking of changing up my amp rack. I currently have one that's made of MDF. Nothing too fancy. It sits right behind my head and is angled slightly. It looks decent but I'm thinking it's time for something new. It currently holds 2 amps. I need to be able to mount crossovers for my mids and tweets to the new rack. On a side note, anyone mount their crossovers in the rear speaker compartments ?

+ I want to keep my amps grounded at the same point so basically I'm looking for a new design of the current rack.

+ I want to keep the weight down. I would consider making something out of glass.

Let me know what ideas you guys suggest!

Disclaimer: I hope this makes sense. It's Jaeger time in TN if you know what I mean.

I'm going to be building an amp rack to hold two amps behind the driver/passenger like you have. Where did you ground your amps and what gauge wire did you use? Thanks.

I used a spot between the two gas tanks for the ground. It works fairly well. I have some noise getting into the lines but nothing very bad. I went and visited a guy on the forum and he drilled the hole. (talk about needing a beer after that)

I ran 2 4 guage wires for power and 2 4 guage wires for ground. My goal was not to every have to rip this car apart for wiring upgrades. Fortunately for me, I already screwed that up and I'm running more speaker wire here in a week or two.

My digital camera absolutely sucks. I have a friend with a new one so when she gets a chance to bring it over here I'll try and snag some pictures.

I ran a 4 gauge for my power from a brass lug termnal on the batt through the door firewall and to a twin 8g dist. block.
I then ran a 4 gauge ground froma brass lug terminal on the batt through another seperate drilled hole in the door firewall and then to a quad 8g dist. block.

I have zero noise at any time and at any volume.I'm pretty certain with these Vettes you need a solid COMMON ground. The battery is just the best one.

I built my amp rack that can hold 2 amps, 4 crossovers, 1 capacitor, and a distributor out of 1/4 MDF so it is not heavy at all since it has many holes to hold all the stuffs
I think my amp rack is weight about 2-3 lbs max.
I got vert so I ground everything to my waterfalls.
Good luck with your project!

Noel, if you have noise, it could be the ground, but I would be more willing guess it is from your HU.

Here are a couple of pics of a covered amp rack I built to hold 2 amps, 2 crossovers, and my 6 disk DVD changer. I made it all out of 1/2" mdf, so its not too heavy. Plexi would look cool also, just need to get yourself a router since the edges will be exposed.

I did 1/4" hard board with an MDF frame, with an carpet covered 1/4" hard board. The result was flush with the ledge and tall enough to cover the amps.
