Default Just adding a subwoofer is it worth it?

I was just thingking for now I would add one of those subwoofers That fits in the center compartment in the hatch to my stock 2001 coupe.
How much will it help? Does the stock stereo have enough power to power the subwoofer?

It will make a difference. How big that difference will depend on the equipment you purchase.
No, the bose system will not power a sub. You will need an aftermarket amp for that.
Good luck

Anytime Feel free to ask any future audio related questions. There is a lot of knowledge that can be found from us here in the Audio Forum (even though we don't always agree )

I've already done what you're planning. It does make a significant difference. I used an Xtant amp and a 10" alpine sub. Sounds really good.

I'm planning on going overboard in December, removing the 10" and installing two 15's, a new head unit, new door and column speakers and a 2nd amp.

It'll make your stereo sound louder at lower volume as well, yeah it's worth it.

I added a Precision Power amp and a 10" bass tube to my vert and it made a big difference. I'll be upgrading soon, but the interim step worked great. The only draw back that I noticed was that when you move the CD changer (If you have one) to one of the other rear compartments the changer will tend to skip more. I think because it's not in the center of the car anymore and closer to the rear wheel.

Good luck with your decision.

1000 watt sub? Man, you guys are animals :-)

I put a 500w Amp with a 400w sub in my C5, and it is almost more bass than I need.

I have 2 10" subs with a 1200 watt Rockford Fosgate Punch amp (cost $230 for the amp at Best Buy on sale). Box was purchased from Mike on the boards here and was a PERFECT fit! This is a TON of bass and I only have the amp turned-up half way. It's an AMAZING sound out of the Bose stereo and was WELL worth it in order to get the amount of "punch" I wanted w/o having to rip out the Bose stereo and speakers and do a complete re-install of everything. I HIGHLY recommend it if you want some/alot bass in the car and even with install, I think it only cost me around $450 for everything. I can really crank it on some songs and it thumps the hell out of me... haha.

I guess if you ever feel yourself starting to have a heart attack, you can just crank up the bass and defibrillate yourself

Also, those thumping subs can help when you get stuck in snow

Thanks

The Bose system is not all that bad..a sub helps a ton and a set of tweeters would not hurt either. Mongoose...you can add an amp and sub while keeping the factory radio.

i just added a 12" woofer and 400 watt 4 channel amp and it definately helps out the stock system. all you need is an amp, woofer, box, line level converter and all the wiring.

i like the bose system and my highs are loud enough to me. but i will be upgrading my amp pretty soon because i need more bass.

thinking of putting a 12" eclipse titanium and a real 1000 watt amp.

which line level converter did you use?
did you use the GM recommended one that costs like $80, or did you use another kind? I bought a sub and amp, and i got a line level, but its not the GM one...just wondering if this will work

I added an Alpine Type R 10" sub and amp and it's amazing the difference. I have the factory head unit and speakers elsewhere. Do it and you won't regret it.
A 10" sub was too much for me and I have it turned down about halfway.

no i used the one that you can get at your local auto parts store. i think its only like $10 or $15. and it works perfect. i have no hissing or any odd noises in my system.

just wire it into one of your rearspeakers. the converter has 4 wires- put the two positives to the positve wire on the rear speaker and the two negatives to the negative wire. there is also a brown ground wire but i didnt attatch it to anything and my system works fine so far.
