Looking for pictures of the holes for the speakers. This is of course with no grills. I am trying to figure out what congigureation I want to go with when I replace my speakers and also the size of the holes.
I figure I will have to make some mods to fit the speakers i want or look at getting speakers that just fit the holes and go from there.
I hear there's a couple of forum guys who make a mounting plate for that goofy shaped hole
...And I bet vrumvrum can even tell you the name of at least one of the guys to whom he is referring.
Anyway, here's what I did:
The main mounting plate is made from MDF/Bondoglass. The trim piece that holds the tweeter/mid-range combo was CNC-milled out of aluminum. This speaker pod fits, mostly unobstructed, behind the Bose grill.
Tweeter: 1" Dynaudio D28 (from their home speaker line)
Midrange: 3" Dynaudio MD140 (automotive driver)
Mid-Bass: 6.5" Scan Speak 18W/8535-00
This picture shows how the speaker pod fits behind the stock grills. I got this door panel, for modelling. My actual door panel is all black and unadulterated.
Nelson - I have said it before, I will say it again, that is one nice install.

Nelson,
Those speaker plates are sweet, too bad their hidden behind the grilles. Very nice work just like Mike's pieces.
Thanks guys.
As far as the speakers being hidden, yeah, that was a tough decision to make. After all the time and labor I spent making the speaker pods, it was a shame to hide them behind the door panels. I was originally thinking of doing some custom door panels similar to others I've seen around. But I've done a lot of "conspicuous" installs before. And this time around I wanted to do something more stealth.
At any rate, the C5 doors even with their odd-shaped speaker assemblies do lend to some create packaging ideas. There's plenty room for drivers and the outer surface of the panel is far enough from the mounting surface of the speaker, you can put some drivers in there that are deeper than allowed by most other cars. One note of caution if you haven't already noticed: the stock speaker grilles in the door panels are not mirror image (I didn't notice at first and learned the hard way).
I'm getting red X's. Could you please email me (cory@coryj558.com) detailed pictures of your setup. I am flying out to pick up my new '02 Z06 this Friday and want to get my Dynaudio 3-ways (7" woofers) into it ASAP

Cory-
Photohost.org must be down. I'm getting red X's, as well.
However, I'm out of town today. Tomorrow (Wednesday) when I get home, if the host is still down, I'll email you the pics directly.

slightly off topic but I am mid install of components in my doors and I can't find where the wire from the door comes into the cockpit.
I can feel my way inside, through the rubber bridge between the door and body, but can't get the wires through.
Please help!!!! It's driving me nuts!!!!
On both sides of the car: above the kick panel, about midway between the floor and the top of the dash, there is a small, plastic access panel. (If I remember correctly, it's a couple inches higher than the rubber bridge that goes from the door to the body). It is rectangular approx 4" x6" and just pops into the body or kick panel. It has a small wire bundle going through it.
I hope you have a fast connection. I just sent 8MB of pics. In case you have dial-up or some other limitting factor, let me know and I'll try to find another way to get pics to you. There must be something wrong with photohost.
Thanks!! I've got broadband and pretty much unlimited email space so thanks for the hi-res!!
