C6 Speaker upgrade and tweeters .. need Bose expert
I have a new C6 with the Bose and Navigation. Needless to say it is not much better than the C5 in the audio department. It needs tweeters in the worst way, which is an easy fix. My question comes in about the Bose Amps.
Has anyone here only replaced the speakers with some high quality speakers in their C5? And if so what did you use (impedance)?
I am making the assumption that the C6 has pretty much the same type of door amps the C5 has. There are a set of 10" woofers in the door which are OK and don't need replacing at the monent. But there is a set of 3.5" twiddlers above them, which are sucko paper. Also there is a set of 5.25" in the rear which are iffy at best. I would like to replace both the 3.5 and the 5.25 with some coaxiel quality units. Also does anyone have a suggestion on some high output tweeters?
The trick here is to not blow up the bose amps.
I'll have some Infinity Tweets pretty soon. They're ** BRIGHT **. I wish I could get that text to blink to have the added effect. Seriously, if you want some freakin' bright tweets hit up Infinity.
Honestly, I think you should take this opportunity to be the first person on the board to have some crazy junk done to a C6. I mean, if it's a wife or girlfriend thing, just say it was broken from the factory and you hafta replace it
First of all, I'm jealous that you have a C6.
If the stereo is like the C5, the door woofer is an 8", not a 10" The easiest way to add some sizzle up front is to add a set of tweeters up front. There are several manufacturers that make tweeters specifically to add on a normal set of speakers without giving you any amp problems. If that isn't enough, IMO, chuck the whole system and go from there.
Good luck
The more I think about it, maybe you should just add dedicated tweets to the system. The 10" speaker is an awesome mid-bass driver but I can't imagine to much mid-range coming out of them. Your 3.5" might need to stay in there to provide with some necessary frequencies. Wonder if there are any audio shops that would help you out in the area? A good RTA would quickly tell you what each speaker produces.
I know you are asking about replacing the 3.5" and adding tweeters but I just can't think of any manufacturer making 3.5" component sets. If you are looking for coaxes, there should be quite a few available. Just watch that ohm load!!

so, is it really true there are 10"s in the doors?
Someone just took a hard look at the woofers and said that they were 8" speakers in a 10" frame. I will try to look this weekend. AND get an impedance reading.
I just re-did the entire system in my C5.
I used the Kicker 8" woofers in the doors (their newest model - not sure of the number), and the Eclipse tweeters up front. They tweeters are "liquid cooled" (not sure what that means, but the installer swears by them), but they sound really clean!
liquid cooled is a ferrite fluid that helps keep the tweeters from over heating. They move fast, compare a tweeter to a humming bird and your on target.
