Default Tapped pre-amps on stock HU not working!

I have a 2004 Z06, I'm installing a amp and sub. Using 99HT's write up on tapping the stock HU for the preamp rca, and radio on switched wire. I'm not getting any sound coming out the sub. I was very detailed and careful on the sodering of the female rca's to the tapped preamp outs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, or at least point me in the right direction on testing.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

I have an aftermarket head unit, ran into the same problem. After reading the manual X amount of times, it made mention of turning on / setting pre amp line. With my head unit, power was turned off, pressed audio button, select all settings. When I scrolled through settings, I found "pre amp off",
switch it on, then powered up unit -
Check your manual

I'm still at a loss, I'd appreciate if someone would jump in here who has already tapped their pre outs on the stock HU. Thanks again.

I ran into a problem, when my ground wires on the RCA were not completely tapped into the clear covered wire coming out of the HU. There is not a lot of room in there to work and one slipped off. I also had one of the RCA grounds break off because I was jerking it around while trying to get room to tap into the HU wiring. The RCA grounds are pretty tender, and it didn't take much to break it. I pulled the HU back, out fixed it, tested it BEFORE I put the HU back in. Tested it again after I screwed the HU back down, but before I put all the trim back on.
I would suggest pulling the HU and making sure you are still tapped.

I've redone it again last night, soldered all the connection nice and neat. Even my volt/ohm meter shows a signal on the other end of the rca cable. Messed with the input gain also but still nothing. I'm such at a loss. I've tried it on both of my audiobahn amps and nothing.

Can you direct me to 99HT's paper on this, I'm looking to do the same thing you're doing in the next week. Maybe my experience will shed some light on your install? Thank you!

Here is a link to 99HT's Tech Tip https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=120&TopicID=1

I printed another post that I cannot find anymore, and this is how I wired my HU.
LF out C4(9) TAN/BLK
RF out C4(10) LT GRN/BLK
LR out C4(11) BRN
RR out C4(12) DK BLU
Common C4(13) LT BLU, DO NOT USE FOR EXTERNAL POWER AMP
Shield C4(14) Bare Wire
Ground C4(15) BLK
The following are the head unit power and signal controls
SW +12 out C1(8) DK GRN, Radio On Signal
Power C1(10) ORG
Ground C1(5) BLK/WHT

1. Cut the end off of one RCA cable and strip the insulation.
2. On teh stripped RCA end, you will see a thin wire with shielding around it and there will be alot of strands around that. Unwrap the individual wires from the shielded wire and twist them. This becomes the negative wire for that channel. you will do this for both channels. Simply put the outside wire is negative, and the inside wire is positive
3. Follow step 2 for each RCA cable
4. Take one RCA and connect one of the shielded inner wire to the LF out C4(9) TAN/BLK wire coming out of the stereo harness. Take the second RCA shielded inner wire and connect it to the RF out C4(10) LT GRN/BLK wire coming out of the stereo harness. Take both negative wires you created in step 2 and connect them to the clear shielded wire coming out of the stereo harness.
5. Do the exact same thing for the rears, LR out C4(11) BRN, RR out C4(12) DK BLU.
6. Connect an 18 gauge wire to the SW +12 out C1(8) DK GRN, Radio "ON" signal and run this to the remote turn on, on the amp. (Do not use the PNK Radio Signal on.)
Run your power wire from the battery to the amp, ground your amp to the seatbelt bolt, run your speaker wires.
Some have used the lip of the rear deck, be VERY careful, the gas tank goes up inside that lip. It is easy to poke a hole in it.

I do not know who created this post, but I followed it and had no problems.
I cannot take credit for the content, just the retyping of it.

Always test your system before putting it back into the dash, and retest, after you have it screwed in but before you put the dash back together.
If you have a spare speaker hook it up to the amp and test it prior to hooking up the new speakers in the doors, etc.
If you do have a problem it will help isolate it.

Do you think it's just my old amps that just can't see the low signal from my stock HU?

And yes I've ran another souce throught the amps and it plays just fine. It's just something with the signal coming from the stock head unit preamp taps.

I have a 2002 Z06 and tried the same thing. Never got it to work. I finally bought a Link-meup box and it worked great. I have the link-meup box and a PAC-OEM 1 for sale youe choice 80 bucks. I replaced my whole system and don't need either one

I tried the same thing and never got it to work either. Finally went to the local stereo store and bought a line level converter that was a lot easier to install and most importantly it worked.

Couple of different types.
