Default one of those decision things

Ok, the cd player in my Z06 died. I think I got a pretty good run out of it, i mean less than a years ownership, and a little over 4000 miles on the car, so thats about par for delco right?

here's my question:
Should I take it to the dealership and wait the 2 weeks while they figure out that it is indeed broken and they fix it, or do I spend some money and put a new head (and i guess speakers) in.

With the new head i can have mp3 playing ability, but with keeping the stock stereo, I don't have to pay out any funds.

I hate listening to the radio because of dj's and commericals, but at the same time i do not need top of the line stuff, just something i can put compilation cd's or mps cd's into.

Thanks :)

Here is what you do.
Have the dealership give you a new one (say you'll install it yourself) and sell it on e-bay. It should fetch about $250 that you can spend on a real HU and some better speakers. :cheers:

PS I'm totally serious :smash:

You should consider XM radio if your going to get a new HU. Over 100 channels of digital quality music and news/sports. All 68 music channels will be commercial free Feb. 1. I just bought a new HU for my vet and will be hooking up the XM in March. Go for an Alpine HU that is XM ready. From there all you need is the converter box and anntenna and your set. Of course there is a small $10 monthly fee for the XM, but well worth it. The Alpine 9813 (the one I just bought) is XM ready and plays MP3s. A good price right now at Circuit City for $350. You might need new speakers though so the price can get up there. Check it out. No one I know who has gone to XM has ever regreted it! Good luck! :cheers:

What I would do, since your car is still under warranty, is have the dealership fix your stock HU. Then put it aside and install an all new aftermarket system in the car. One day when/if you decide to sell it you can put the functioning stock HU back in and keep all your aftermarket stuff to put in your next car. If you can afford a Z06 you can afford to do the job right.

Oh yeah, go with Alpine. :thumbs:

Just be aware Alpines XM module is $100 more than any other I have seen. Thats 1 pair of speakers right there for some one who is ok with the Bose system sound.

:iagree:

Or keep your head unit and speakers in storage until you sell the car and then you can return it to stock.

Danno355;

You may want ot consider the Alpine 9520x, I think it was just annouced (and it should be out reall soon) and it has XM built in (no need for the external tuner).

Regards;
Spike
