It's a Kenwood MP522 MP3, Sirrus capable (debating).
I thought the kit with the pocket would be handy, a little extra storage. HA! Maybe if it were vertical!! I'm sorry, but Corvette's have a bit too much acceleration (especially ones that have a Z in the prefix!! ). I actually wound up with a CD in the hatch!!
Oh, and I've installed maybe 50 head units in my life, but this was BY FAR the biggest pain in the arse ever! No room, strange angles, inaccessible places (tuner in the C4 is impossible to get to!).
yea i had to grind the back of the dash plate to fix.
:yesnod: Yup, I had to take a big ole chunk out of the dash! Hack saw, patience and 3  later, it was out!
By way of comparison, I installed a headunit in my Dodge Caravan (family car, gotta have one). Total time (including speakers and soldering everything) was 2 hours. Total time to install in the Vette: 5 days!!
I know what you mean about the storage compartment... even in my lil LT1 the cd's fly into the shifter console ... Yup a Zr1 would go into the hatch :D
I just went throught the same install ... the dash kitt was hard to find and the install hardly an easy perfect fit!!
Never in my years of installing ... was so much involved to throw a deck in a car.. I even had to shave the upper part of the face plate to allow the my pioneer face to flip down to access the cd being played GRRRR...
Of course the inside cavity had to be cut out too...
A quick question to you guys .... How did you get the power antenna to work? obviously I needed to run an extention from the rear compartment to the deck.
But I'm more reffering more to the power source end of it ... I'm baffeled on which wire to use and where to access it....
(the one to power the antenna up and down)
Yeah, I thought about filling the hole up, but it'll have to wait until next year. I figure that if I add a preamp/crossover I'll have somewhere to put it. :yesnod:
By the way, I tapped the antenna wire near the tuner in the dash. It's really handy to have the service manual, especially on this car!! The installation kit that I used had no useful instructions. I was able to find a wiring harness adapter at my local Kenwood Outlet store! :hurray: That made things 6% easier!
