Default Bose replacement?

I am not to happy with the Bose system in my 92 and would like to replace it. Can anyone give me a total list of things I would need to do this? I already have a Kenwood CD player I pulled out of my last car and an amp, but what else do I need? Also what size speakers? The more specific the better. Any help is appreciated.
thanks in advance,
brad

...I replaced the system in my 91 a year ago.....since you already have the CD/player and amp, you only need to get speaker's, as the old bose speaker's won't work with your new system....I plugged 6x9's in back and 5 1/4's up front.....Size is pretty much personal preference according to what you want out of the system.

Wow, so that's it? Did you do the swap yourself or pay someone? I am wondering how much the swap will cost.
thanks

I am not certain about the layout of the 92 but I have been slowly replacing the stereo in my 94. Hopefully this helps.

The gist is that you should either replace all of the Bose stuff or put in a complete system. The Bose speakers can be adapted to but sound terrible since there is a significant amount of electrical equalizing prior to getting to the speakers. Also the Bose speakers are .5 Ohm compared to the normal auto 4 Ohm, which means without the adaptor, you would quickly fry the amps (either in the head unit or the external) if you wired directly.

Some more downers are that all of the Bose speakers use non standard mounting so any replacements would require some custom work and the normal power structure comes from the actual control boxes behind the passenger seat, so you would either need to run wires from aft to front or tap into some wires behind the console. and finally, I have not run into any standard kit that allows one to mount a DIN reciever without custom work.

If all this has not disuaded you.

A) Keep the Bose speakers, purchase an adaptor (I believe Scosche FAI-1), run aprox 6 pairs of wires (4 speaker pairs + 2 power, 1 antenna, 1 ground) to the adaptor, mount the head unit and away you go.

or

B) dump everything Bose and start from scratch. The rears are easy to replace with a simple 1/2 to 3/4 inch ply panel. The fronts are a bit more difficult. I built a custom enclosure and have been able to get a 6.5 inch to fit under the stock paneling and plan on mounting a tweeter somehwere in the door panel.

A bit long winded but email me if you would like amplification (pun I think).
