Hopefully someone can help me...and my dealer (lol).
I just bought an 01 Coupe. Found out the bass controls on the stock head unit did not function - trebile etc works, speakers work, but bass does nothing - I have no bass through the speakers. Took it in for warrenty work at GM dealer and the dealer ordered a part. Part came in, dealer installed it, and then called me and said its still not working.
I was then told that the previous owner must have had an amp and other parts installed and that my radio warrenty was now void so they could no longer work on it. I was then hit with an $80 "inspection fee", but they waved the 6+hrs they said they spent on this issue thus far. If I wanted it fixed I would have to pay $80/hr and they had no idea how long it would take to fix because there were wires everywhere and it was a mess. ???
What should I do? If I just say f it and go buy a new head unit (Kenwood or such) would I still lose my bass, or would it magicly return? I am so lost here without bass and this is REALLY bugging me that I am just finding out like this and my GM dealer is dropping me and saying my factory bose system is now void for any warrenty work.

If there was an aftermarket HU in there before you bought the car, its possible that whoever installed it bypassed the Bose amps in the doors and didn't hook them back up correctly when putting the stereo back to stock.
I wouldn't let the dealer work on it. It isn't hard to remove the door panel. you can see whats doing in the doors. Perhaps the speaker assemblies are not hooked up correctly or may even be missing the bass speaker all together. If that looks okay, pulling the stock HU isn't hard either. Here is a link on how to do both:

Thanks for the links. Apparently there was a lot more than an aftermarket HU in it, as they found aftermarket THICK amp power wires that were cut and poopie was spliced all over the place they said it was a mess. I read a few posts and I agree on the bose amp not being hooked back up to bass. I read it has some special bass signal from the stock HU - I guess that simply wasn't reconnected - and well obviously my dealer had no idea how to fix it (if it was that easy I think they would have). All my speakers do produce sound however, just there is no bass and yes that royally sucks.
If I buy an aftermarket HU like a Kenwood, and get it professionally installed (for free by like Best Buy or Circuit City or another shop) - will this fix my bass problem in all speakers or will I still be screwed by the bose amps? Besides, what are those amps rated at, are they really better than a new 50wx4 HU? Any help is greatly appreciated as this no bass thing is really pissing me off. I guess if I do get my new HU, shortly there after I'm going to be getting a steath box and instructions on hooking up an amp.

Dont take it to Best Buy or CC. Thats proably why it is such a mess in the first place. Take it to a professional stereo shop that has worked on the C5 before.
