Default C5 stealthbox questions

I am trying to figure out which box I want to buy from Mike or make myself and was hoping some may give me some insight. Maybe at 32 I am a little old to be worrying about loud music but screw that, I want :banghead: loud. My question is, does the stealthbox give you a lot of good clean bass? Will it rattle your teeth out? Or should I go with the super hang-over box that Mike has and get a good quality sub. I prefer the stealth look but would rather a good clean loud system.

I also saw the post regarding the fiberglass box that Conquer made and how to make it in this forum. That looks really good. If you read this Conquer, how did it come out and sound? Are there advantages to the fiberglass box? It appears that it gives more air space than the mdf boxes. Is that true? Is it stronger?

I'm worried about not being able to buy a good enough quality sub to fit in the stealthbox. Are there any stealboxes in the Houston area? I would love to hear how one sounds. Thanks.

Wow, lots of questions.

"ratteling your teeth out" also known as Sound Pressure Level (SPL), is more than just a function of the enclosure. The advantage of fiberglass over the MDF stealthbox is interior volume, and strength. Many SPL subs will have bigger magnets, longer mounthing depths, and and require more internal volume to physically mount into a box and achieve the pounding low frequency reproduction you desire. A ported enclosure will give the most pound for your money, but often require an enslosure much too big to fit in the center compartment of a C5. You will need to first determine your budget, musical tastes, and how much room you want to give up for your enclosure. Then you can choose a sub and build a box for its optimal performance. Also don't forget, big SPL subs in sealed boxes will require big power (1000 watts or more) to achieve their full potential. :smash:

I'm thinking of a 12 W6 with a 500/1 amp pushing it. I thought about the W7s first but that is probably going to be overkill plus they would be too power hungry. I definitely want to feel the bass on occasion and since I have not heard a stealthbox yet I'm kind of leary of buying it. I'd rather have and not need then to need and not have if you know what I mean. Maybe I'll just wait and see if anyone in the Houston area has a stealthbox that I can hear.

Thanks for the info.

A stealth box will work just fine as long as it is sturdy and to the correct airspace for your sub. Whether an enclosure is hidden or not does not matter as long as it is built well and to the correct specs of the driver.

Cajundude, if you go with JL 12W6, it may fit in my regular hang-over box which has about 1.2 cu. ft. what 12W6 needs from 0.9 to 1.5 cu. ft.
You just need to find out the magnet diameter by contacting JL.
If you got a coupe or a FRC, this 12W6 will give you more than enough bass.

Yes... that is true... yes, its is stronger depending on how many layers are used.
