Default question on c5 radio

OK-- I have the "premium" bose system with single in dash cd, no changer.
I want to get the do-hickey that allows me to convert the cable from the head unit to the changer to RCA inputs.
My question is-- since I do not have a changer, does my Vette have the cable, and, if so, is it run to the trunk, or am I going to have to buy the cable as well?

You will need to buy the changer control cable and the adapter to use RCA cables.

ok-- so in vettes without a changer, the cable is NOT included, even though the head unit has changer controls?

Correct. Talk to Tuan at http://www.tlelectronics.com, he has the cable and converter that you need. He helped me out when I was thinking about hooking up a MP3 player to my stock head unit.

how difficult is it to run the wire from behind the head unit?
I really was trying to avoid taking the dash apart.

The head unit is pretty easy to get out, you have to remove the center console and radio bezel. Then it's a matter of routing the cable under the dash to where you want to use it.

I'm 90% sure all the C5s have the cable in place for the changer. It is alreadly in the back too, under the carpet on the drivers side.
If you have a Z06, you are SOL. Contact Tuan for cable then. GM sells them for approx $130, yikes! I also read the only good adaptor is an expensive one too, $130, yikes! The cheaper ones cause a hissing sound.
There just a post on the adaptors in this Audio section.
My $.02, don't spend money on adaptors, replace the entire system and you'll be happier.

That's what I decided to do. I could spend $130 for the cable and adapter and then $200 for an Archos MP3 player or dump the system and get an Alpine MP3 headunit and some new speakers. Spending about $600 for the new setup.

The cable on mine was right under the passengers right foot. Pluged a cd changer cable into that and ran it into one of the back small compartments and attached the Aux converter to plug in my Sirus radio rca jacks.

Was it under the carpet or behind that compartment thinggy in the passenger foot well?
I looked a bit for a free cable, but didn't see anything obvious. How do I identify it?

That is so weird. I had the factory 12 disk changer (sold on e-bay). The wiring to the changer was so intagrated into the factory harnesses I left it in there. I then refunded the E-bay buyer the cost of a new cable since he had a Z06. ( I like to keep my customers happy, still made good $ though :) ) All the taillights, reverse lights, etc where run with the changer wires. I can't believe GM would do two different wiring harnesses for the very little money it would save them, actually I would think it would end up costing them more in the long run with different engineering, different parts made, and changes to the assembly line.

so before I go ripping apart my vette, where should it be?
I have two answers-- under the passengers foor, and in the back behind the driver. Where exactly should I look, and what should I rip up to find this?

under the carpet. There was an unused connector that I pluged the cd harness into. I found the instructions on the forum here someplace and the part from PIE also had instructions.
