Need HELP in wiring a remote CD into a 97 coupe that does not have the aux plug from the radio
I used this as a reference.....but when connected this way it does not work...need some help/guidence on how to install a CD when the 3 wire connector is missing
Three wire Signal CD/Radio connection
1)SW +12 out C1(8) DK GRN, Radio "ON" signal
2)Power C1(10) ORG (always hot ??)
3)ground C1(5) BLK/WHT
The last one is a lot more of a challenge 1) Radio signal = DRK/GRN There are several shades of green so again use the CD wire harness as a color guide in the search. This color seems to be used as a communication link for several components in the system so you will see this color wire used a lot in that "wad" of wires but only one or two of them are the ones you need. The way to find the wires in question is to pull the fuse panel and remove the box from the firewall (don't disconnect any wires). In the back of the box about midway are two of the dark green wires that are together put a probe on one of them and do a continuity search at the "wad" for it. When you find it strip a bit if the insulation away and connect the last 8 incher to it (DON'T SOLDER YET) now actually connect up all three wires and fire everything up with CD's in the 12 disk cartridge. If it is not working (the unit will take and shuffle the CD's but no music) then you tapped into the wrong Dark Green wire so keep tapping until you found the one that enables the system and then solder it up.
All should now work as intended so go ahead and finish up the install.
Now all there is to do is enjoy.
97 corvette Info from ENTERTAINMENT 8-113 RADIO - C1
it is a KENWOOD MODEL KDC-C717 10 disk unit and it has the GM harness from the rear to the front passenger area. one plug, the small 4 pin is in the car but the three pin (orange/dk green/black-strip) is not. how do I hook it to the wires on the plug back of the radio.
Now, my colors for the radio C1, were a little different as listed below and I showed the pins as well.
Three wire Signal CD/Radio connection
pin wire color circuit function
1 gry 118 speaker Return - LT FRT
2 tan 201 speaker Feed - LT FRT
3 dk grn 117 speaker Return - RT FRT
4 lt grn 200 speaker Feed - RT FRT
5 blk/wht 351 Ground Clean
6 pnk 314 Radio Signal - ON
7 - - not used
8 dk grn 145 Power Antenna Relay Feed - Coil
9 - - Not used
10 orn 440 Fuse Output - BATT- Type III Fuse
Now I have used the below listed and do not get anything but disk shuffling
1)SW +12 out C1(6) PINK, RADIO SIGNAL ON
2)Power C1(10) ORG (always hot ??) Fuse output - BATT - type lll fuse
3)ground C1(5) BLK/WHT Ground Clean
(If I go to C1(8) Dark Green , Power Antenna Relay Feed-coil I get nothing that I can disguingish and not even the disks shuffling).
can anyone tell me what differences exist in the 97-98 and what wires to use. thanks in advance...tom
Re: Need HELP in wiring a remote CD into a 97 coupe without the aux plug from the radio (WAEC5)
WAEC5, thanks for the reply. It is the Bose HU factory and the Kenwood came out of a 99 frc and was working. I am told, but no documentation, that this was one of the first after market ones to work with the Bose. Thanks again and I am continuing my search. Tom
Re: Need HELP in wiring a remote CD into a 97 coupe without the aux plug from the radio (RPOZ4Z)
RPOZ4Z, thanks for the reply on the changer...now the unit does have an intermediate device (little black box) that plugs into the changer and is between the changer and the GM harness. I will look at it tonight again. Thanks for comments. Tom
