Default Opinions on new system installation.

I'm scraping the stock Bose system in my 84 with two blown speakers.

I talked to the owner of a local stereo shop this morning (highly recommended to me) and he suggested doing the following:

Pioneer deh-3500 Head Unit (Yes I know it won't fit the stock space. But the guy told me he does a lot of Vettes and I'll be very happy with the appearance when he's done. - He owns a Vette!)

Infinty Kappa 5.25 in the front doors
Infinity Kappa 6x9's in the rear
(He siad he was going to box out behind the speaker grills with plywood to put the 6x9's in their own enclosures and line everythign with Dynomat.)
Viper 4 Channel 200w amp mounted behind the passenger seat.

All that for $1000 installed. Sounded ok to me, but what do you guys think about the brands? I don't know much about electronics... been out of it too long. He said the Infinity's were the best he had. I know that head unit isn't top of the line, but he said it would sound good with that setup without costing me too much money. What do you guys think? Should I look for a different head? Are those speakers good?

$1000 installed sounds fair to me.

Getting the whole system with installation for $1K sounds like a fair deal. If this is a DIN sized hu, get them to put an install plate with a pocket under the pioneer, and make use of the space.

Sounds fair, but don't put 5¼'s in the doors, you won't even be able to hear them. Instead, tell him you want 6½'s in the doors. They'll fit in the stock bose enclosure with a little modifcation and they'll sound MUCH better.
