I'm thinking of getting an amp but have no idea what is availabe and what will work, properly. I have a Kenwood deck thats badged for the car, so I don't want to mess with it.

Re: Which AMP to put in a 76 Coupe? (Dwayne 76)
Hmm.. I missed this post the first time. It all depends on what you want to power, and how much power you want. You can probally find an amp that will fit behind the seats, or in the compartments. It all depends on what you want.
Also depending on the outputs that your current stereo has you might have to look for one that can take speaker level inputs.
Hiya Chris, et. el. The thing that is causing me the most grief in Amp selection is my head unit. It dosn't have any pre-outs, so I'd have to splice off of the speaker wires :mad I'm not looking for Earth shattering bass, but I would like to be able enjoy the lows and mids a lot better. Currently I have speakers in the dash, Infinitys I think there 6 x 8 or something similiar, and a copule of ok speakers in the back, I can't remember the size on them though, but like the infinitys they have a tweeter, I'm going to guess that the speakers in the back are 4 x 6, pus the itty bitty tweeters on each. I've considered placing an amod the seay, much like whawt Mg62 has done (I havn't seen PygamaSams setup yet). I am also concearned about heat disappation with the amp sandwiched behind the pass seat. I don't want to spend toop much on this as a sound system is not a priority, but as I said befiore, I just want to be able to enjoy the 'Radar Love'. :lolg:

Ya the head unit is going to be a bit of a pain. There are amps that have speaker level inputs, so you can just run the wires to the amp, and then back to the speakers. I wouldn't worry to much about that (there are also speaker level to line level converters as well I belive). Are you sure there are 6x9 in the dash. I doubt it. You have a 76 right. Probally not far off my 78 dash layout wise. I have room for 4x6 speakers in the dash. And 4x6's in the rear sounds funny as well. Possibly 6x9 or 5x7. Not sure. I will have to look at your car on the 9th.
As for where to put it, behind the seat is ok. Most new amps can deal with limited air flow, and as you said you are not going to be running huge wattage, just enough to hear the songs :-) Mine is mounted on the back wall, and even after a good long drive with my friend (who likes to turn it up really really loud) the amp is just slightly warm to the touch.
You also have to decided if you want to run all the speakers off the amp, or just the rears, or just the fronts. I am currently running my fronts and sub off the amp, and my rears off the deck.
I will be sure to show off my set up on the 9th :-) You can bet on that.
