Default Kenwood 911 TV/DVD mounting questions

I have my Kenwood 911 tv/dvd unit mounted where the stock stereo is but it sticks out too far for my taste and my stereo shop says that they cant push it back any farther in the dash. I was wondering if anyone has pictures of this unit in the stock stereo location. Also, because of this mounting depth issue, I am strongly considering moving the unit to the climate control location. I was wondering will the climate control unit fit neatly in the stock stereo location? And will the Kenwood 911 piece along with a 1/4 din audio control 3.1 unit fit in the climate control location without any cutting in the dash piece necessary? Any pics of these kinds of setups would be extremely greatful. Thanks guys.

Let me refer you to an old, but picture-loaded post ...

Kenwood multimedia install - pics, pics, and more pics

Your stereo shop is correct - you have to modify the air conditioner housing to get the 911 to sit back further - not something I'd recommend for the timid. I spent several days customizing everything to get the 911 to mount just right.

It'll fit fine in the stock climate control position. I don't think you've got room for the 911 and a 1/2 Din component in the middle part - but I haven't actually measured it.

One point I'd like to mention about mounting it lower is that you'll have to pull the stick-shift back for the display to eject - it's not that big of a deal - but not something you like finding out 'after' the job is done.

Good luck - and show us some pics!

I dug up an old pic of the customized air conditioner blower box ... it's not easy to tell what I did - long and short of it is that I sanded the ribs down in the area effected, and cut into the box where the 911 hits it directly - in the shape of the back end of the 911 - it has sort of an L shape ... I fabricated a new wall for the blower box in the area I had cut out - glued it up and covered it all in aluminum tape. Again, it was a major PITA. Also, the middle frame rail is removed in this pick to allow for the center channel box to sit under the 911/behind the 8" monitor. Hope this helps some! :flag

Please excuse the mess! :D I promise it looks much better now!

Thanks for the info. I had checked out your post before. After hearing how much of a pain it seems to put it flushly in the stock position I think I will try it in the climate control position. The 3.1 audiocontrol piece is only a 1/4 DIN piece, not at 1/2 DIN piece as you mentioned in your post, do you know if a 1/4 DIN piece will fit too? And do you know if the climate control piece will fit in the stock stereo position without any problems? Meaning that it will look factory and be flushly mounted? Thanks.

The Audiocontrol 3.1 is indeed a 1/2 DIN size. I installed one in my other vehicle.

The climate control space does not have adequate vertical height for a HU and the 3.1 - unless you wanna modify the bezel.

I think that would work fine - but you'd obviously have to fill in the gap at the bottom of it with something because of the height difference.
