Anyone install the new JL 8W7 into the doors of a C5?
If not, would anyone venture a guess as to whether or not they would fit? It's a lot of mass to put in the door, but they would probably sound sweet.

There's no way you'd be able to fit one of those in there... I think they need 8" mounting depth. You *might* be able to fit one in each of the side wells though.

Unless you build out the door pods and panel about 6", there is no way that a 8W7 will fit. The pods would hit your knees when you sit down. The doors are very deep but you have to have clearance for the window to roll down. Up front subs are great for sound quality when you want to have proper staging for competition, but for most people it really won't matter. If you really want up front subs, you might try the Illusion 10" inverted magnet subs. Very shallow mounting depth and they could if with some cutting I believe. They do not sound to bad either. http://www.solen.ca/ill.htm
Just a thought, there are alot of things you could do, even put good ol JL 6W0 mini subs up front in each door or dual Focal 5ws mini subs in each door. They both work well but will not give you the output of a larger sub.

Sounds like it would not fit from the feedback given. I was thinking that the front of the speaker would be the bottleneck and not the back. The back requires a mounting depth of less then 7 inches, but the front sticks out about 1.5inches (Reading through the lines of the JL literatue)
I am curious as to why some people don't think subs in doors are a good idea. If my memory serves me correctly, Richard Clark's Buick Grand National had a 12" sub in it for mid bass. People asked why he was running such a big speaker, his response (paraphrased) was that while it is not typical for 12" speakers in cars to be used for midbass it is very common for concerts.
Any thoughts?

The Grand National built by Speaker Works fist time around had 12" midbass drivers in the rear corner panels. Proper tuning and time alignment made teh car sound unbelievable with the upfront horns the car ran. Then had 15s in the back for sub-bass. You will need a very efficient fast speaker for such a woofer to play midbass. Typical midbass drivers are 6.5" because their response is much faster then a 10" or 12" will be. But a 10 or 12 in a small enclosure it would work well. You could do some fun things in a vette :D
Re: Anyone install the new JL 8W7 into the doors of a C5? (Wicked C5)
Even if you could fit them, assuming they do IB well... there is almost NO way you could dampen the door enough to handle them....
the "response" thing is BS with any quality component... My IDMAX 12 has better response than my CDT 8's... And the CDT8's have excellent response... it all depends on how its built.
I would also assume the 13w7 soudns just as good as the 8w7.. only much much much much much louder.
