"SYS" error on LCD-Aftermarket HU the reason?

If I install an aftermarket headunit(alpine) in my 2001 vette, will my ECU computer know the difference and throw a code on my dash LCD display.
I have heard of some of the forum members using resistors to fool the computer...something about the dimming lights in the factory HU that isn't there anymore.

Thanks for any explanations.
Just trying to avoid any problems before I start the install.

This is not an issue in the C5. Replacing your HU will not throw any codes.
