My Bose must go. I am looking for something with better sound. Esp at higher volumes since the vette is a vert.
Can anyone give me some recommendations as to replacement parts (decks, speakers and amps)? I would like a 2xdin to fill the space of the Bose and would prefer not to do any cutting for speakers (ie I want to mount them where the old ones are).

I looked at several double dins but I decided to go with a single din Alpine....Metra makes a great install kit that has a 3 cd pocket that fits below the radio...it looks factory.
Anything you pick will be 10x better than the Blose system.
My Boston Acoustics are mounted in the factory locations and I am using the factory speaker covers. You will need to run new wire to the speakers. I left the factory wire in place in case I ever wanted to put the original crappy system back in :smash:

You're going to be very unlikely to find a *good* double-din system. Your best best will be to go with a single DIN system and a faceplate. Personally I'm very happy with my Alpine CDA-7897, but there are other good systems out there (Alpine and others). I'd recommend going to your local stereo shop and listening to what they've got. Find out what you like and then order it from your online dealer of choice. With a vert you can probably go with a nice 2-way or 3-way set of components up front, no rears (unnecessary if you're running a good set of fronts), amps, and a sub.
Bodhi, which Metra install kit/model# are you referring to? I'm searching their site, but am having a hell of a time locking in on the one you mention. Thanks!
I got a 1.5 DIN Pioneer and I am about to replace it with a single DIN ... I love the look of the 1.5 DIN since it's filling the space but the SQ is not much there and no MP3/WMA but I got a CD changer.
I really wanna go with Alpine CDA-7995 but may settle down with Clarion 835.

I have the Alpine 1.5 din CDA 855D. Fills the opening very nicely. However, I'm not sure if they're still available in retail. I've seen them on eBay. Good luck.
Give us some specifics on how you replaced your speakers. I replaced the head unit a couple of years ago and now the Blose speakers are going out. What sizes fit front and rear? Did you have to do any cutting/drilling? I need to change my speakers like yesterday!

Here's what I did...
First off, I have a 1994 coupe.
I got 4 X 6 speakers up front and 6 X 9's out back. the fronts bolted right in, but I did have to do some minor drilling in the back. I still used the factory speaker covers. You also need to run new wiring for the speakers/
As for the Stereo, I got a JVC double Din unit for the car. It probably is not the best out there, but has 45 watts and sounds infinatly better then the non-Bose unit I had. The biggest benifit IMO is that it fits perfectly into the car. The only problem is it is a silver color, and not black.
With the receiver unit behind the Pax seat, it was a lot more work to install then I planned, but after a day of playing, I have a very nice, clean installation.
Why can't you use the current wiring to the Bose speakers that are already in the car. By the way, I pulled mine out my rears yesterday and both circuit boards are toast, doesn't look like an easy repair like I was lead to believe!

From what I have been told the Bose wiring is 1 ohm and aftermarket speakers need at least 4 ohm.
I guess my ignorance is showing, but the four wire connector to each speaker looks like ordinary copper wiring. Is the diameter too small to run enough current to power the speakers?

It would be my guess that 2 wires are for power (+12v, GND) and the other 2 are the signal into the speaker amps.
The gage isn't the issue.
I have also heard it is something to do with impedance matching. Best bet is to replace everything at once.

hmmm,i too hate to run wires mainly because its more clutter.theres a post in general (i think) where someone used the oem speaker wires with no prob.
how bout it delco/bose experts-is the 2 speaker signal wires to the bose speakers some kinda resistance wire?
im certainly no electronics expert but this is the first reference ive heard of 1 ohm carrier wire.
im wondering if the low wattage signal to the bose amps isnt confusing the issue maybe?
what gage wire is the oem bose speaker wires?
why not tie the 4 wires into sets of 2 and use em maybe? :confused:
oh yea,an answer to your main query.
ive been looking for a few hrs at different options for late c4 stereo parts.one of my main concerns is factory look.
never could find out what exactly "din" is but c4s to 89 use din 1.5.
havent tracked down for sure if my 92 is too but i think 90-96 could be closer to din 2 size opening.
there only a few options with the din 1.5,the best being the pioneer (surprisingly much better than the alpine 1.5 offering)
and even that best pioneer offering isnt worthy of the vehicle imho.
plus it just doesnt match worth beans.
im thinking along the lines of sandwiching a din 1 cd receiver on top of an equalizer that will equal the opening.
if someone could post the exact opening specs that would be cool ;)
if the cd/equalizer stack would work then youd have a bazillion options for looks performance on both units.
