Default Can componets be added to 01 C-5 Alarm?

I have any 01 Vert and was wondering if anyone knows if I can add a proximity sensor to the system? I thought this would be good way to go since it is a vert. If one can't be added does anyone have a recomendation on good aftermarket system? I don't want to lose any of the factory features but want some extra protections. Thanks in advance.

It can be done pretty easily. I added a shock sensor to mine by tapping into the factory harness pin switch that activates the alarm when the hood is opened. You can add a proximity sensor the same way. Do a search in the archives and you should be able to find the link.

You will need to install a switch to kill the power to the sensor when the ignition is on, or else you will get a message on the DIC that says "Tanneau Open". I wanted to install an electronic switch that would do this automatically, but couldn't find one, so right now the sensor is not hooked up to power at all.

I also added a LED in the center consol that comes on anytime the key is out of the ignition. I got it on eBay, it is called "simularm". I think it was like $5.

Thanks for the replys. I even tried calling the dealer.. What a waste that was. "Uuuuhhh we don't work on alarms here" Can you tell who you send them to? "If it didn't come from Gm wit one you is out o luck" And this was from the service writter. Now I remeber why I hate the dealer. Thanks again for your help. I'm going to try some of the local stereo shops and see what they can tell me. I'll post what I find out.

Just use a relay connected to the 12v accessory line to deactivate the alarm add-ons while the ignition is on. Any stereo shop will be able to do this for very cheap... maybe $40 in labor.
