Default Installing a head unit in a '94. How do I get the console apart?

What do I need to do to take the console apart enough to install a new head unit?

I checked the Tech Tips section. Didn't see anything there. :(

Okay, this is completely from memory so don't shoot the messenger. :jester

First remove the console door. 4 torx screws. You can flip it around and lay it in the back making sure it lays down (light out) or you can pull (carefully) the wiring out from the console area and unplug it. I usually do the prior.

Next, there are 2 small bolts under the front corners of the carpeting on the inside of the console. You'll need to remove those. There's one screw or bolt (not sure as it's missing in mine) underneath the front cup holder cover. Once you're done with that, you should be able to carefully lift the shifter bezel up from the back pulling it away from the radio bezel at the same time as it's hooked there. (you'll see once you get it off) At this point you'll need to disconnect the wires to the hatch button and chose how you want to remove the shift boot from the shifter. Some people will take the shift knob off and slide it over, but in a '94's case if you still have the stock shifter that requires removing the reverse lockout as well. What I do is get a really short screwdriver and undo the boot from the bottom of the bezel (edit - 4 screws - 1 at each corner). Next you'll need a torx screwdriver to remove the A/C vent above the radio. Once that's out, you'll notice 1 bolt attaching the radio bezel behind that to the left. Remove that as well. There are 2 bolts in the bottom of the bezel near where the "tabs" stick out that go in the shifter bezel. Once you have those 3 bolts out, you can carefully pull the radio bezel off. There is a pressure clip to the left of the A/C controller so when you pull it off it helps to have one hand next to that and one on the other side. Pull straight and it'll pop loose. From there, there should be 4 bolts holding the radio in place. Should be obvious at that point. If you need anything else, just ask as I've been in there many times. I hope my (old  ) memory remembered everything.

Sounds good to me. But to get the new radio and install kit in you will most likly have to cut a area out behind the deck to make room for the deck to fit..I put my deck in deep..

Mine actually fit without cutting in back. I just notched the bezel a bit in the lower corners so it slide over the new face a bit easier. The stock face sits flat against the back.

sounds straightforward enough. Hope it's as straightforward as it sounds. :yesnod:

As for depth, I'm hoping it's deep enough already. It's already got an aftermarket stereo in there.
