I have a new Panasonic CD player with the bose adapter installed now. I have the whine also. Is it just simple to pull the adapter, and replace the speakers with non-bose speakers, of course not using the bose amps? I had heard that the car would need rewiring. I hate the whine. :banghead:
Yes, you do need to rewire, but that is one of the simplest things to do, especially if you are not going to install an amp. If you use the stock speaker locations, you can run the speaker wire (buy 12 or 14 gauge from Home Depot, they sell it cheaply by the foot - 35' should be plenty) from the head unit to behind the kick panels in the footwell. Remove those kick panels (7mm bolts I think) and snake the front wire up to the opening for the door, through the rubber connection and into the door. Leave the Bose wiring in there in case you want to sell the car so that you can include the old equipment. Mounting the speakers takes a bit of work, but I won't describe it unless you ask. Anyway, that takes care of the fronts. To do the backs, remove the door sill covers (again, 7mm bolts) and pull back the carpet. Take the wire from the kick panels and run it under the carpet to the rear of the car. Replace the carpet, sill covers and kick panels. That's it. If you have some extra wire, I think you can even remove only one sill cover and run both sets of rear wire down the same side of the car to save time. One of the resident audio guys can correct me if the mismatched lengths or running the wires next to each other will compromise sound quality. BTW, amps are recommended and with a more sophisticated system you may want to forego rear speakers, but that take you to a new level of cost and effort. Just ask if you want to talk about those options. Good luck.
No problem. You will be happier. Where in south Fla are you? My dad started a corvette club in Venice and they have about 30 members (C2s through C5s, so far). They go for Sunday morning bagel cruises and stuff. He's got a 65 vert. I'll be down there next weekend with my wife and kids for his 60th bday.
