I've installed an aftermarket stereo in every car I've ever owned with no problems, however, this C5 seems just a hair different. First, my setup is a kenwood Z828 head unit, a 2ch ppi amp in the rear bridged to 1ch powering a 12" sub, and a 4ch ppi amp bridged to 2ch powering the front door speakers (focal). Im using no rear speakers.
The problems?
1) When the key is on but the stereo is off, and I'm logging data on the ODB2 port (or reprogramming via ls1edit), I can *hear* the data over my speakers. What the heck?!
2) if I put neon string (it was backlighting in my amp box, very subtle) near my amps or wiring it buzzes BAD. Even if I ran wires direct to the battery and ran them to the back on the OUTSIDE of the car, it'd buzz.
3) When I turn off my Kenwood headunit, about 10 seconds later I hear a ULTRALOUD "ZAAAAAAP" noise, kinda like a bomb dropping sound, but sped up (hard to explain, but its LOUUUUUUD). The noise goes through BOTH amps making the sub and the door speakers make the loud noise (it lasts about 1 second). Sometimes I'll even hear a 2nd noise 15 seconds later similar to the first but shorter.
What...the...heck?
FWIW, all this stuff was in my Camaro before this car and it worked perfectly fine. For the most part, when Im driving and not turning the stereo off, the stereo works flawlessly. It sounds like all of this is somehow related to my headunit, maybe its not grounded properly?
Re: C5 stereo wierdness just wont go away!#@ (jmX)
1.) Where did you pick up the switched 12 volt source from? It sounds like the common source or circuit is used by both head unit and computer, however any speaker wires routed directly over the comm port?
2.) The transformers emit a radiation field that could possibly be picked up by the signal cables of the amps, or by the speaker wires themselves?
3.) I had a simular problem but it was my pre-amp. Something in the power supply of the preamp maintained a charge for about 4-5 seconds after the car was turned off and it was discharging the stored voltage when the noise was noticed. However it could go back to an improper switched 12 volt source as well.
Need more details, any preamp, where are the 12 volt switched/constant and ground connections from?
