hello everyone,
I met an 85 vette owner today in germany who spoke to me about a mod he accomplished..he had an aftermarket HU installed but retained the six bose speakers with their amps. He told me he bought an adapter from crutchfield online that reduces the output of his HU to what the bose requires (I believe he said it is 5watts), then bought the factory harness and spliced it to the new HU and that it works great..has anyone tried this and with what results? would it be any different for my 93 C4?
second and somewhat non-related...is their any type of aftermarket seat heater for a c4? I love it on my bmw , though its not likely I'd drive the vette in teh winter...thanks
marc
Excuse my ignorance about this, but why do we need to use these. What is the downfall from just running an aftermarket HU without them? I hooked up an aftermarket HU and still have my original Bose speakers/amps and it all works, is this a bad idea? Sorry for being a :conehead
Well in the case of the C5, the amplified 8" woofers in the doors will not work w/out this adapter. Also, I have heard that some Bose speakers have a 1 ohm impedance. This is lower than the traditional 4 ohm impedance of almost all aftermarket automotive speakers. The danger of running the Bose system direcly from an aftermarket HU in this 1ohm scenario is a possible internal amp failure because of the ultra low impedance.
i am doing what sounds like is the exact same thing with my 86 coupe. I ordered what is called a bose interface module which splices into the new HU and then to the wire harness (also had to order), then to the factory harness. i ordered both, the wire harness for GM, and the bose interface module from Ecklers. It took only a day or two for them to arrive here in MI from FL.
