Default I just primmed the box...

It's looking good so far, i'll let you know of the results. I am planning 3 coats Primer and 3 coats enamel. That sould give some added strength to the box and keep all the air from passthing though the wood albeit the hole for the terminal posts.

If you want a really nice finish, wet sand between coats with 1000 grit sandpaper. A friend of mine did this building some home speakers and they turned out beautiful.

Never compromise quality! Sand the inside and put a plexi wall in.. Yeah!

On the inside? :skep:

Is this box MDF or particle board? Or even (god forbid) plywood? If it is, there's no reason to seal the wood. That stuff isn't gas permeable in any kind of amount that's going to matter. You'll leak orders of magnitude more air at the joint between the driver and the wood. Seal all your joints really well and you won't have any problems.

It is similar to MDF, I can't tell the difference actually, it's call Fiberboard. But it looks just like MDF. But Wood is Gas permiable. I know that there is glue and stuff in it, but just to give it an extra touch, and who knows how long it's going to take for the ebay guy to send it to me... :skep:

Hey, they changed the :skep: smiley! The other one was hilarious. They need to bring him back and call him :wtf: The moderators get a big thumbs down on that one. I miss the "I'm with stupid" smiley too...

Actually, MDF stands for Medium Density Fiberboard, so that's probably what you have.

DUH, I'm so stupid. So it is MDF, but it's only 1/4 or maybe 5/8. I'm just giving it a little tightness to it.

5/8 is good.. but I'd use like 1" thick stuff on the front.

Ditto, try using "MAR-Hyde" rubberized undercoating spray next time for the box internal chamber. It's like $2.00/can at Wal-Mart and when its cured after 12 hours or so it seals every nook and cranny perfectly and allows the enclosure to flex while actually increasing strucural integrity.

the best thing to do with the inside of an MDF box is to coat it with fibreglass resin.

no cloth, just the resin. it will make the walls stiff as hell... then, coat the insides with dynamat or equivlent. kicks butt!!!!!!
