I was always under the impression that nakamichi was good stuff and I came acrossed this link in another thread. What do you guys think?
I'm wanting to put together a system for a C5 and I was steering towards the JL 500/5 but from all the reading that I'm doing I'm steering myself away from rear speakers. So I think that a 4 channel amp using 2 of the channels to power a sub would probably be ideal. I want to mount the amp back on the rear wall of my 98 coupe and I can't manage to find 2 amps that will fit in that spot.
The Nakamichi PA-2004 looks like it would fit the bill nicely.
Comments/suggestions appreciated
:)
Well unless you're going to tell me pyramid, then you can keep it to yourself.
Nak makes great amps and head units. Speakers are not quite as top of the line as the rest of the line. They are one of my favorites though. Those, A/D/S, McIntosh, and a few other high end amps are some of the best out there. You do pay for it vs. some of the other companies for the amount of power you get but the sound is top notch and if you have good enough speakers really makes a difference.

The current Nak stuff is similar to many other suppliers and nothing special. Nakamichi never made Car Amps that were taken seriously. Their Home Amps using Nelson Pass technology were considered excellent. Their claim to fame was Cassette Technology, they made the absolute best Cassette decks both Car & Home in the industry. When CD became the format of choice Nak was left in the dust. As a matter of fact Nakamichi has been sold to a distributor in LA and their immediate future is unknown. Nakamichi was a great company until about 1995 when they were sold to a Chinese Trading Company and its been downhill since then. I would stay away unless you could get it for next to nothing as there will be many issues with service during the transitional stage.
There are many good amps out there from companies that specialize in Amplifiers, Nakamichi is not one of these.
News to me. Good to know. I know the Nak stuff from the late 80s through early 90s. At the time it was the top of the line for amps and decks. I also really loved their electronic crossovers whcih are no longer being marketed in the US. Didn't know about the sell out. I've had nothing but good from my deck but it was probably designed before the company was sold. A/D/S was also recently sold but I think the verdict is still out on whether this was a good or bad thing. What amp secific companies would you recommend?
