Default Recommended car audio forums???

Anyone have any recommendations for good car audio forums? Is there such a thing? Seems like if I can find a forum devoted solely to car care (autopia.com), there should be one for mobile electronics.

Sorry, I mean one's dedicated to only car audio - I'm thinking someplace like that is where I could start learning some more technical information. :seeya

Like I said, there are some resident experts here. I'm an electrical engineer with training in acoustics, especially speaker systems and amplifiers. There are others on here who work or have worked in the car audio business. If you have any technical questions, ask away.

As for another forum, I've never seen anyone not have their question answered in full here, so I've never seen a need to go anywhere else. I wouldn't know.

Thanks - this looks like exactly what I'm looking for.

I realized that very few questions don't get answered here, usually it seems like quite knowledgably. However, for someone starting pretty far down the car audio food chain in terms of knowledge, that's not really enough - I'm completely ignorant of how ignorant I am. Thus, rather than asking & getting answers to specific questions, I think I need a place to go hang out where I can try to pick up enough basics to at least formulate an intelligent question. :seeya

Also http://www.mobileaudio.com
and http://www.sounddomain.com
have good audio resources.
Try the mobile audio FAQ. It has a great brief overview of most topics and an index so you can get to the topic you want rapidly.

It's embarassing how dumb I am about electricity - I still think that if I don't keep all the outlets plugged in with something, the electricity will all run out the holes onto the floor. :hat

Many of the so called "Expert Forums" are quite the opposite. Their intention is good but the execution is somewhat below that level. Many of the regular participants are "children" with very little knowledge and alot of opinions. Its akin to learning about sex from your friends in junior high school, alot of boasting and misinformation. The only Forum I respect is on the web site of http://www.carsound. com ,they have a link on their home page to forums also try http://www.termpro.com and their forums.
The reason is they both have moderators that are employed in the Mobile Electronics industry and these are people I have grown to respect over the years. The alternative sites are filled with self serving threads spouting much misinformation and usually are frequented by people that own Japanese compacts not Vettes. As a novice you are likely to get a better response from the above sites than others.

The reason I feel comfortable with this subject is I am currently a senior level executive for a mobile electronics company and have been in the industry since the days of 8 Tracks and FM converters.

Good Luck, but this is probably your best source for stuff pertaining to Vettes.

Most of the Mods at Termpro are the same Mods at Sounddomain. They Mod both sites. You'll see these are the two sites I mentioned in my previous post above. They are knowledgeable people. You can tell the newbies that just spout opinions on any site, and they are on all audio forums. Also, if you have a question about something someone said at another forum, just run it by us, we'll steer you in the right direction after we laugh and make fun of you. :D  :p:

Btw, I'm probably the only person with a Vette that frequents Termpro and Sounddomain so if you have a Vette specific question you're better off coming here anyway. :yesnod:

All C4 Vette info:
It has cheap speakers in 4 locations made of paper and foam that cost GM $5 to produce.
It was designed 25 years ago
The decks were made by panisonic

Non-bose specific:
All C4 vette info plus
It is compatable with aftermarket items but it would be very difficult to buy something that sounds worse today with $300 in your hand
You can use aftermarket speakers with non-bose but the deck has the equivilant of 5w per channel and usually doesn't have enough power for most speakers. If used this way the speakers will generally distort before they are louder than the exhaust and this constant distortion will damage the speakers rapidly.

Bose specific:
All C4 specific info plus
It has an amp at each location. These are cheap amps with capacitors that are prone to frying. Each costs about $20 to build with parts from Radio shack. It also makes the system 4 times more prone to failure as there are 4 times as many amps.
The amps make 1/2 ohm outputs. This is so they can make alot of noise with little power. However, sound quality suffers and it makes them totally incompatable with any other stereo setup. The industry standard is 4 ohm for car and 8 ohm for home.

You can buy an adapter to use aftermarket stereos with the bose system. They cost $80, effectively kill the decks internal amps which are of superior quailty to the bose, and add engine whine to the system. There are no adapters for using aftermarket amps or speakers with the bose system.

Rip it out already.
