Default replacing 86 delco/bose head unit with....delco/bose??????

hi... I have an 86 coupe with the standard delco/bose head unit... I would like to replace it with the delco/bose gold head unit because i want the CD player....and i know I'm gonna hear a bunch of crap because we all know that the factory units sucked... but i want to keep the car pretty much stock......the questions are...

1) are the head units pretty much the same for wiring and fit?
2)anybody wanna sell one at a reasonable price if it halfway works and the answer to question 1 is yes?

thanks advance

1. No.

2. Already sold mine.

your better off removing all of the bose junk. getting it remanned or replaced and saving it for when you sell the car. go aftermarket. it will sound much better.

It would cost about the same, sound much better and be fully reversable to just put in a good aftermarket system.

okay... sounds fair enough.. now... suppose i wanted to keep the factory amps.. if i do the pac 1-oem thing and put in decent speakers like polks or MBs... what's gonna happen to the output of the head unit.. i mean.. is this pac kit simply an impedence matcher or worse yet... is it just a fancy connector mate? :chevy

don't even bother.

the bose system is so incompatible with the rest of the world, it ain't even funny. they run those little amps at 1ohm stable... sorta... POS.

just remove it all... leave the factory stuff alone and box it up... don't mess with the harnesses and just wire around it.

I would look at Boston Acoustic before MB Quarts... MBs require too much tuning to make them sound right.

look at CDT's, too... http://www.cdtaudio.com. have yet to hear them, but they talk a nice talk... they look cool, too... and several members here are now using them.

Focal is a legend. wow. fantastic. musical. wow.

Alpine for the head unit. no question. Eclipse is another very good option. after that, it is questionable...

check for JL Audio or soundstream for amps... Rockford fosgate is pretty good... there are some other brands that I can't conger up right now... but others will chime in.

for subs? JL Audio

Actually the Blose run at 1/2 Ohm but it doesn't matter since they do not have the ability to run on an aftermarket system like bogus said. Go aftermarket and box up the Blose for when you sell the car.

What's your budget? Let us know and we can help you better.

Sorry but that's mistake #2. Way over priced. Tell us what your budget is and we can find you some good stuff, same stuff as you would get from Crutch, but cheaper.
Try http://www.pricegrabber.com on for size.
Also http://www.thezeb.com http://www.sounddomain.com http://www.mmxpress.com http://www.tms-electronics.com
to name a few good ones. Don't worry, we'll get you through this. ;)

crutchfield is just a base reference because they have good spec comparisons all in one place...after that i can go out to other vendors for pricing... i'm probably going to be looking at 500 to 600 bucks depending on speaker selection...if i can go higher i will... but i have a quarter panel and paint to think about too (and a week in key west LOL). the way i see it... the vette has pretty bad sound field characteristics anyway and to get any transparency at all you either have to get rid of the exhaust resonances and every squeak and we all know what that's about or you have to go with 400watts or better on the bottom end amplifiers. Now we're talking about headroom which pretty much = more power. this in turn equals less sensitivity at normal listening volumes which i see being around 80 -90 dB spl. but.. you guys have been there so i'll take what you suggest and go with it.

thanks again :chevy
