Default Radar detector suggestions?

What would you folks reccomend for a radar detector? I just got my C5 and wanted to get a detector that was:

1. Not outrageously expensive yet effective
2. Small enough to not ruin the interior of the car
3. One that doesn't require installation (inside the car/dash)

What do you think?

I have the Valentine 1 installed in my car and I think that most of the forum members have the V1 also. It is a great detector and I am not sure what you consider expensive.

Just my opinion though.... And congrats on getting the C5... :flag :seeya

I purchased the Passport 8500. I had them hard wire the cable to the car and put the LEDS in my ash tray. The price is around $300.00 instaled. I have been pleased with my purchase.

Valentine and Escort are the leaders in tech. for detectors. I'm not here to disput which is better because the fact is they share one major common factor. You can get a ticket with either one. Use the search option and get as much info to help you decide which one would be best for you. Valentine has some really neat features but the fact that it goes off when certain SUV's are in front of you and a few other issues, is not worth the $400 price tag to me. Good luck and just remember, common sence will save your butt more often than a detector.

Valentine 1 !! The directional arrows are worth the extra cost :) It is very easy to hardwire and mount using the CAU visor or mirror brackets.

Do a little research for yourself.

Btw, I have a V1, Escort, Passport, and Cobra, each with neat features unique to themselves, but search out what will suit you best. Nothing is ticket proof.

I would not trust the results at radartest.com. All the companies pay them for the reviews EXCEPT Valentine. JHMO If you want to see an honest test, check Car and Driver reviews. They PURCHASE the detectors without notifying the companies what they'll be used for.

Very happy with my Passport 8500. Pros and cons: Pro-V1 has arrows. Con-V1 has a lot of falsing and costs the most. Pro-8500 costs less. Does not false as much as the V1. Cons-8500 does not have arrows.

Go to the websites for each detector and read about the features. The sensitivity is very good for both detector, so don't even concern youself with that.

And you think C&D isn’t biased? All media that sells advertising is bias. You think the radar companies don’t pay for that advertising you see in C&D magazine? Also, if I were the manufacturer of the K-40 I would demand my money back after the reviews they got at both radartest.com and C&D. The only non-bias media would be Consumer Reports, they sell no advertising. However, these are close enough reviews to get a good idea of what to spend money on.

Remeber, no detector is ticket proof.
